The NSAA Board of Directors met on May 20, 2022 at the Embassy Suites in LaVista with the following members present:

District I - Kathi Wieskamp, Lincoln Public Schools​
District I - Dana Wiseman, Sutton​
District II - Dr. Bob Reznicek, Boys Town​
District II - Thomas Lee, Omaha Northwest​
District III - Dr. Jon Cerny, Bancroft-Rosalie​
District IV - Ryan Ruhl, Centura​
District V - Robert Drews, Holdrege​
District VI - Dr. Troy Unzicker, Alliance​
Also in attendance were: Kara Graham, Athletic Director, Lincoln Southeast High School; Kim Snyder, Nebraska Department of Education liaison; and Josh Schauer, Perry Law Firm.

The meeting was called to order at 8:00 a.m.

1. It was moved to approve the Consent Agenda. Items on the Consent Agenda included:

- Approval of the meeting Agenda as amended​
- Approval of the Minutes of the April 7, 2022 Board of Directors meeting​
- Approval of the Minutes of the April 8, 2022 Representative Assembly​
- Approval of the Financial Statements​
- Approval of the following new cooperative sponsorships for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years:​
- West Point-Beemer and Bancroft-Rosalie for Softball​
- Eustis-Farnam and Elwood for Girls Wrestling​
- Platteview and Weeping Water for Softball​
- Pender and Bancroft-Rosalie for Girls Golf​
- Approval of the following cooperative sponsorship renewals for the 2022-23 and 2023-24 school years:​
- Crofton and Bloomfied for Wrestling​
- Sandy Creek & Lawrence-Nelson for Wrestling​
- Humboldt-Table Rock-Steinauer and Pawnee City for Wrestling and Girls Wrestling​
- Hartington Cedar Catholic and Hartington-Newcastle for Wrestling​
- Humphrey and Lindsay Holy Family for Boys Cross Country and Girls Cross Country​
- Elkhorn, Elkhorn North and Elkhorn South for Boys Swimming and Girls Swimming​
- Ashland-Greenwood, Mead and Yutan for Baseball​
- Logan View and Scribner-Snyder for Volleyball and Softball​
- Omaha Brownell-Talbot and Omaha Concordia for Boys Tennis and Girls Tennis​
- Omaha Brownell-Talbot, Omaha Concordia, Omaha Mercy and Omaha Roncalli for Girls Swimming​
- Approval of the dissolution of the following cooperative sponsorship for the 2022-23 school year:​
- Pender, Bancroft-Rosalie, and Lyons-Decatur Northeast for Girls Golf​

Motion Carried: 8-0

2. Moved to ratify the Class A and Class B Caucus Proposals. Motion Carried: 8-0

3. Moved to adopt the following Approved Ruling: "Regardless of grade placement, CSIET-listed J-1 or F-1 non-immigrant visa program participants are only eligible in the school district in which the student's host family lives." Motion Carried: 8-0

4. Moved to approve the NSAA SMAC recommendations for Wet Bulb Globe Thermometer (WBGT) guidelines for heat illness prevention. Motion Carried: 8-0

5. Moved to adopt the following Approved Ruling: "Athletic Trainers (ATs) are the standard of healthcare for interscholastic athletics. It is recommended the services of a licensed athletic trainer be accessible to all the school's student-athletes. It is also recommended a licensed athletic trainer be on campus for school-sanctioned athletic games and practices. It is recommended that all coaches be First Aid, AED and CPR certified." Motion Carried: 8-0

6. Moved to add "athletic" trainer to the current Approved Ruling regarding medical personnel at regular season contests. Motion Carried: 8-0

7. Moved to begin in 2023, the NSAA Girls and Boys State Basketball Championships will each move to a four-day (4) championship event, with all classes rotating annually. NSAA District Speech dates will be considered to minimize conflict with both the Girls and Boys Basketball Championships. Motion Carried: 8-0

8. Moved to approve the 2022-23 NSAA Calendar. Motion Carried: 8-0

9. The Board discussed the District Music financials.

10. The Board recognized Kathi Wieskamp and thanked her for her service. The Board then welcomed Kara Graham as the new NSAA District I Board Member.

11. Moved to accept the resignation of NSAA Legal Counsel Rex Schultze and thanked him for his years of service. Motion Carried: 8-0

There being no further business, the meting was adjourned at 9:11 a.m.

The next meeting of the NSAA Board of Directors will be a work session/retreat on June 8-9, 2022 in Kearney.
