State Speech

I had the opportunity to watch a niece compete in the state speech competition in Kearney on Friday. What an amazing event and talented individuals. As an NSAA-sanctioned event (and counts toward the NSAA Cup) here are the final results from the state championships.

Lewis & Clark Conference

In the conference's latest meeting agenda for November 29th there was a discussion item about members leaving. Anyone have insight on what is going? No minutes are posted.

Would this involve some of the Knox County schools going to the Niobrara Valley Conference? Maybe the Knox County schools combining with some of the eastern NVC schools to form a new conference? Just total speculation on my part. Only other conferences nearby are the East Husker to the south and Mid-States which shares part of the same geographic footprint as the L&C. Can't see either of those two conferences taking in any existing L&C schools. Maybe Winnebago and/or Walthill going independent?

Personaly I've always thought the conference has an odd structure. Would love to see Laurel, Wakefield, Ponca, Crofton, Hartington CC, GACC, Wisner-Pilger, Pender, Stanton and Lutheran High form a conference. Seems like a good group of similar schools and communities. Not sure if there would be enough appeal for the current Mid-States schools though.

5 Fouls per Quarter Rule

This new foul rule has now been in place for 1 season. At 5 fouls in the quarter, they shoot 2. Foul count resets each quarter.

I didn't mind it, just puzzled why.

I tried to sort this out in my mind, and simply don't understand the logic for this rule.

How does this make the game better?
How does this make the game worse?

The only thing I could come up with is that it potentially slows down the intentional fouls at the end of a game, but I am not sure it even does that.

I searched for a thread on this. Can someone please shed some light on this for me?

Fan Behavior

I have noticed a lot of information in recent years from the NSAA regarding “respecting the ref”. I would say in large part no one is listening. The fan behavior at the Girls State Basketball Tournament was terrible, Parents and fans screaming on every call, as if they have a better view, most don’t understand the game to begin with. The worst fan behavior that I witnessed was Skutt Catholic. I could not believe what I was witnessing. There is already a shortage of officials and I can’t imagine the problem getting better.

NSAA past state basketball Championships are now on YouTube

With the NSAA Boys Basketball tournament starting this week, the NSAA is starting to upload past state championship games to YouTube for those who are interested in checking some out. There aren't many from the 80's and 90's but a ton of games from 2003 and on are going up.
