Results from Saturday:

CLASS D1
Perkins County 56, Southwest 16

-Columbus High is legit it seems, Northwest is a pretty decent program. Their game against Skutt in a few weeks will tell a lot.

-Wahoo must be for real, only losing to NC by 5 in Norfolk is impressive. They also kicked the crap out Lincoln Christian in week 2 who beat Lincoln Lutheran last night 20-19.

-I can't remember the last time West Point-Beemer was 3-0. Perennially, a bad program, good to seem them start with some success.

-Oakland-Craig is back at it, beating Crofton 41-7 is impressive.

-Yutan is now 0-3, a team many had getting back to the state finals, I know their first two games were against Battle Creek and Centennial, (two top 5 teams,) but losing to Logan View? This is the Raiders biggest win in a decade no question about it.

-Also Hastings St. Cecilia is 0-3. First time they have been 0-3 since?? Their district is terrible, so they'll probably make the playoffs, but man it's weird seeing them 0-3.

-Holy Burwell beating Palmer 59-0. Yeah they'll go deep in D1 playoffs. (Just imagine if they were consolidated with Sargent? That'd be a good football team.) The Burwell vs CWCE will be a fun one to watch on 9-22.

-How in the hell is Ainsworth D1 in football? That town really must be hurting. If I were the Southwest Conference I'd kick them out asap.

Ainsworth is opting down to play 8 man football. Their number last year was 106 and the mid-cycle number is 101. There are 14 schools in C-2 that have numbers of 101 or less. Lutheran High has an enrollment of 74 and is still playing in C-2. Evidently the kids just aren't playing football in Ainsworth.

Teams opting down will cause class C to become one class in a few more years and the C2 cut off will rise to well above 140 mark this next cycle. The problems of 10 to 14 schools will now create problems with 60 or more schools

The C2 cut will be 70 males (C1), 69 males (C2). The cut lines are set already

I have heard that both Norfolk Catholic and David City Aquainis will be C-2 next cycle. C2 will be that much tougher if this is true.

do you think they will re visit that when we have 38 in one class and 60 in the other Personally I like it but do you think it will stick
From the sounds of it, Class A is going to go from having 28 teams to having 32 or 33 teams. It looks like Elkhorn South, Elkhorn, Gretna, South Sioux, and possibly more (maybe Columbus and Ralston) will go up to A. That takes 4+ teams from the current 32 in B....then I have gathered that the bottom enrollments in B will actually drop to C1, which means B will go from having 32 teams to something like 26 or 24. This is unfortunate, but it will decrease the huge enrollment gap that currently exists from the top of B to the bottom of B.

C1 and C2 will no longer be split evenly. I've heard through the grapevine that Aurora is one of the current B teams that will be coming down to C1. As mentioned in an earlier post, some of the lower enrollments in C1 will end up C2 (Norfolk Catholic and Aquinas to name a few).

It will be interesting to see how this all shakes out. If one class ends up with 24 teams (B) I think the cut lines will get adjusted before the next cycle shakes out. It will be a 2 year deal with the current numbers.

Man I can't wait for the changes. It'll take some time to get adjusted to but it's way overdue. When do classifications come out for 2018-2018? December?

Enrollment numbers will be taken on the last Friday in September (September 29). Co-ops have to be applied for by November 1. Schools have to declare 6-8-11 by November 30. Typically before Christmas the new classifications and districts are released. Then in January the schedules are built by the NSAA and released to all schools on February 13th.

A few changes that need to be made to the scheduling/wildcard process
1- If there are 24 teams in class B the playoff bracket needs to shrink to an 8 team bracket. There is absolutely no reason that 2/3 of the teams should qualify.
2- Teams in D1 or D2 that play a school that has a C2 enrollment but has opted down to 8 man should get the 2 bonus points for playing a larger school. Even though the larger school is listed as D1, they are really C2.
3- The NSAA needs to decline all cross-class and out of state games until it is guaranteed that all teams in our state that want a 9 game schedule have it. If there is a team that is missing a week 4 game there shouldn't be another team in our state leaving the state to play someone else. The NSAA needs to take care of all of its member schools before it starts going out of state.
