Bancroft-Rosalie not playing at home at 19-3 having already beaten Howells-Dodge. Great system.
Agreed. They would be easily hosting if D1 and D2 were using the C1 and C2 system.

This is a huge reason why I have never been a fan of predetermined subs. No reason BR and Walthill couldn't swap subs if you are going by geography.

Plus both teams will be hosting a district final regardless of their outcome, which in the end is the most important game. Unless they still have the 180 mile rule in Class D?

The 180-mile rule is what I don't like. Either let all the higher seeds host, or make everyone play at a neutral site. It's really not fair to a school to have to travel to a neutral site simply because you happened to draw a team from far away as your opponent.

One team is 19-3 and one is 19-4.......I don't see the issue really. H-D obviously had a stronger schedule and/or wins to garner more points, which is the how the brackets are currently seeded.
Head to head results should matter when you're separated by 3 hundredths of a point. We shouldn't act like not playing at home doesn't matter, and we also shouldn't act like the momentum of a win vs a loss going into the district final isn't critical. I know how the brackets are seeded, that's the problem.

Or if you are B-R, then don't lose to Wakefield and you are hosting. Also, start writing your proposal to get D changed to the same format as C. I agree with you that it should be.

And how do you handle a theoretical situation where a 14-11 team has beaten a 20-3 team within a sub. Should that 14-11 team also get to host? Whether three or three hundredths of a point, Howells ended up with a higher total and thus has earned the right to host.

Someone could propose making changes to the structure like you're suggesting....I don't think it would gain any traction.

This. Give me all of this. Either have neutral sites for everyone or let higher seed host. Forcing a #1 or #2 seed to a neutral site while a #8 seed gets to disservice to the power point system.

For the record, I think the higher seed should host no matter what. At that point, it's a body of work. Don't let geography and the fear of taking a road trip be the reason the best teams don't have the best chance to get to Lincoln.

As far as the B-R situation. It goes back to the body of work. And as already pointed out, other teams could make the same argument but may not be separated by such a close margin. It does not mean that 14-11 team deserves to be the higher seed over a 19-3 team. Head-to-Head does come into play when we get into ties, but the power points are not tied. If this were a wild card situation, for a spot in district final, I'd be pretty upset if someone argued that Team A should get in over Team B because Team A beat Team B head-to-head a month ago.

Also as pointed out, if the region format was put in place for Class D, they'd be for sure hosting their own sub district.

Agree. In D2, the Shelton girls going to Ogallala to play Hay Springs to probably win by 35+. Why?

Class D AD's and coaches need to embrace a little change. It's not even a debate of who has the better postseason between C and D. It's C going away.

I'm sure this will raise the ire of numerous people. Maybe it's time to consolidate the 4 lower classes in basketball and volleyball into just 3 classes. Just a thought.
I think it's time have one class D for sure in basketball and volleyball. Enrollment 39 and below. That would be about 100 schools.

First instinct tells me “no” but I’ll be a sport and ask “why?”
I will back track just a bit on the original post. C-2, D-1, D-2 could be combined into two classes to improve on the overall competitiveness of each class. It would help to remedy subdistrict champions that barely have a winning record or in some cases below 50% winning percentage.

Why? Class A and B have 24 schools in each class but D should have 100? I just don’t get that argument
Class B is the least competitive class in basketball
Point proven by DC west and Wahoo and others moving up and being very competitive

Both competitive difference and enrollment gap is a lot less in the smaller classes, C2, D1, and D2.
Having 15-23 girls enrollment in 3 grades vs 30-39 is a HUGE difference in available talent.

Many D2 teams don't stand a chance against many D1 teams. 1 or 2 extra kids on a team can make such a significant difference in basketball.

Why punish the kids?

Both competitive difference and enrollment gap is a lot less in the smaller classes, C2, D1, and D2.
Sure there is a lot more parity between D1 and D2 than A and B. Any given year a D2 could probably win D1 but why fix what’s not broken. What you’re really doing is saying small town schools don’t have the talent like A and B so let’s lump them all together and make them an afterthought. Class A and B can get 1/3 of their class into the state tournament but let’s make 100 small schools fight for 8 spots and let’s take away a state championship opportunity by eliminating a whole class because there are some bad teams and bad districts out there. That’s nonsense

What if instead of every team qualifying for post-season play, it was set up more like football playoffs where only a set number of teams made the post-season? Just throwing it out there, but what about taking the top 32 teams in power points in our class C and D classes, seed them as such, then re-seed after that first round of games? Seems to me that would improve the competition for the most part in the smaller classes so we aren't seeing running clock blowouts or teams risking injury against an inferior opponent that is at the bottom of the class in wins/points?

I like the fact that every team has a chance in the postseason. It makes cinderella runs, while rare, fun. And typically the cream rises to the top and we get the best teams to Lincoln.
