Just my thoughts in C-2 for 2nd Round. Let me know your thoughts.

Battle Creek (9-1) at Sutton (9-1)

This will be a smash mouth football game and will probably come down to who comes up with a big play action pass late in the game. The Mustangs will try to feed the ball to Jackson Perrien their stud running back. The Braves will use their power game of Reece Bode and Kadin Renner with the hope of maybe a big pass play from Payton Fredrick. This game will probably be over in a hour and half with the running attack of both teams. This game will be won in the trenches and I am gonna say Battle Creek and Coach Andrew Carlson get to another Semifinal appearance with 21 to 14 win.

Bancroft-Rosalie/Lyons-Decatur (9-1) at North Bend (9-1)

This will be a shootout of a football game. BRLD led by the best player in Class C-2 with Will Gatzmeyer and it sounds like his favorite target Lucas Vogt will be back for this game as well after dealing with cracked ribs. North Bend has a stud Quarterback themselves with Austin Endorf who has thrown for over 2,000 yds. This will come down to which defense and gets a big stop late in the game. I will go with BRLD gets the win late in the 4th quarter with a big play from Gatzmeyer with his legs.I will say BRLD 35 to 28 over North Bend.

David City Aquinas (8-2) at St. Paul (10-0)

This will be another grind it out football game between two teams that love to run the football. Aquinas will be led by their backs Kyle Napier and Caden Kozisek . They also have Caleb Thege their quarterback who can run the football as well. I will be surprised if Aquinas throws the ball more than 7 times. St Paul has a stud running back named Eli Larson he is strong back and also very fast when gets in the open field. Can Aquinas contain him? I think Aquinas wins this game by two touchdowns. I think the strength of Aquinas's schedule will be shown and we will truly see St Paul has played a very weak schedule. I will say Aquinas 21 to 7 over St Paul.

Doniphan-Trumbull (9-1) at Oakland-Craig (10-0)

This has the potential to be a very good football game. Doniphan Trumbull has a great quarterback with Griffin Hendrix and nice running back with Keith Stafford who can rush the football and does a nice job of catching the football out of the backfield. Oakland Craig had a first round scare after coming back beat HCC and sealing the win with a late interception. Will the Knights have their starting quarterback who went down late in the 3rd quarter? Can the backup Gatewood lead them to victory? I think if the Knights are full strength they win this game 28 to 14 but if they are missing their QB I wouldn't be surprised to see Doniphan get the win. Sometimes this time of year its comes down to which team is the healthiest when all said and done.

I think all four have the potential to be really good matchups. I do think St. Paul will edge Aquinas. I am not convinced Aquinas can stop the run for four quarters. St Paul's schedule was weaker by comparison, but homefield should be worth 7 points.

I’ve never believed in home field advantage in High School. FWIW.

I think this game will be low scoring. St Paul 14-10 over Aquinas

The advantage of having home games in the playoffs is that the home team doesn't have to travel. Other than that the home field advantage is a mute point. It's not like these kids are playing in front of 90,000 fans that can make life real difficult for the opposing teams. I also agree that St. Paul will win the game. I'm going to say St. Paul 21 Aquinas 14.

If I was a betting man I would bet that the 4 C2 games will be closer than any other class. Looking forward to this weekend.

Well I guess I am one of those guys that does see home field as an advantage, no matter how small. If it is such a non-factor why have we had such long discussions about how unfair it is for a higher seed to go on the road against a lower seed because the lower seed was on the road last week? Does it affect some teams more than others? Definitely. Is it enough for a drastically overmatched team to beat a top contender? Probably not. But can it be the difference in a matchup between two evenly matched teams? I think it can. But it can also be whoever wins the turn over battle. Or whoever stays healthy. As a coach I would want as many factors in my favor as possible.

Home field isn't a big deal. I think some fans make it a bigger deal than it actually is. I've been to playoff games in the past where the road team has as many if not more fans at the game than the home team does. The only advantage of playing at home is that you don't have to get on a bus and travel. Of course with the majority of the schools in this state now having coach buses, that probably isn't as much of a factor as riding in a yellow school bus for 3 hours.
