Who are the favorites in D1 and D2? I have Cross County in D1 and Howells Dodge in D2, any dark horse contenders in either class??
I'll admit I'm not in tune with 8 man football. My question is: if Cross County is loaded with D1 talent, how did they lose in 1st round of playoffs last year? Injuries or ??Stanton will be very good for at least a couple years. Cross County is loaded with D1 talent not something you see very often at a class D school.
Wynot, Howells-Dodge, and Ainsworth are all going to have solid seasons. Central Valley is year 2 under Chip now and they're going to have a great season as well with a deep playoff run imo.
D2 seems wide open. Will be interesting to follow it.Bob and the 8by80 boys have South Loup high in their rankings. Cross County and Stanton for D1 seem to be the clear favorites with NPSP chasing on their heels. If Jackson Roberts is back to full strength that's a tough top 3 for D1. Sounds like D2 is pretty open. Ainsworth and Bloomfield's schedules don't help prep them for thee playoffs like some of the other top teams. Tough to assume Howells-Dodge doesn't make it back to Lincoln but that senior class they lost was loaded. Wynots offense should be really good this year but they lack size in a MASSIVE way. DCS could be a sneaky one as well from what ive been reading.
D1-Dark Horse Picks- Stanton, NPSP, EMF
D2 Dark Horse picks- South Loup, Wynot, Bloomfield, Ainsworth
I'm not sure if they had injuries or not I'm guessing that might have been an issue.I'll admit I'm not in tune with 8 man football. My question is: if Cross County is loaded with D1 talent, how did they lose in 1st round of playoffs last year? Injuries or ??
I know they have the walk on fullback to NU & the kid going to Illinois, just seems odd that they got beat pretty good last year in the round of 32. Generally speaking, if there are 2 D1 kids on an 8 man team, they should be top 2-3 in the state.
Any insight is appreciated, thanks
Can I ask what that’s based on? They lose the second best D1 Qb who’s playing defense for Concordia so you can argue that he was a better defender than he was a QB. Yes they keep Hille who is an all state talent reciever but will need someone to throw him the ball. The two creighton transfers help (one already hurt) and the O line could be improved as well but without a STUD at QB I don’t see them going wild this season. Their schedule is favorable for them to make playoffs easily and win some games but I don’t see them as a contender.Plainview should be very good.
I personally think the biggest contributor here was that Weeping Water was such an outlier. Weeping Water was extremely low in Wildcard points, but it was due to some health issues on their team early on combined with some really close losses to good teams. I don't believe that was a Cross County thing as much as it was a Weeping Water thing. For what it is worth, I had multiple HS Coaches tell me that Cross County was going to lose that 1st round game not because they are bad but because Weeping Water was so far off in Wildcard Points.I'll admit I'm not in tune with 8 man football. I honestly don't think South Loup is a darkhorse at all. They gave both H-D and Hitchcock County one of their toughest games last year. They bring everyone back but a LB/TE and Center I believe. Huge at DE and Guard with Remund and Sallach. Speed to burn with several of their backs and the Gracey kid. Coaches have Lincoln experience too. I think everyone in D2 is chasing South Loup this year.Bob and the 8by80 boys have South Loup high in their rankings. Wait a second. Bobcat4huskers drops his D-2 thoughts and doesn't mention the South Loup? The South Loup BOBCATS. I think I see what's going on hereD-2 is wide open in my opinion, Hitchcock and Howells-Dodge lost a lot of talent and experience. H-D has a tough schedule with wynot, N-O and Humphrey St Francis. Ainsworth probably has the most talent according to huskerlands senior rankings.
