With Westside, Bennington, Pierce, Norfolk Catholic, and Parkview all playing in the Boys State Basketball Championships this week does any research guru know how many times/how often a team has won a Football State Championship and then turned around and won in Basketball?

Just a few I researched this morning.

Bertrand won the C2 football championship in 1991 beating Bloomfield 16-15. The Vikings followed it up with a 1992 Class C2 basketball championship, beating Shelby 69-56.

Bishop Neumann won the C1 football championship in 2002, beating Gothenburg 28-13. The Cavs followed it up with a 2003 basketball title, beating Chase County 68-52.

Cambridge won the C2 football championship in 2003, beating Crofton 22-14. The Trojans followed it up with a 2004 Class C2 basketball championship, beating Louisville 58-50.

Creighton Prep won the Class A football championship in 1980, beating Burke 24-7. The Junior Jays followed that with a 1981 Class A basketball championship, beating Omaha Benson 54-53.

Exeter-Milligan won the Class D2 football championship in 2014, beating Anselmo-Merna 40-26. The Timberwolves followed that with a 2015 Class D2 basketball championship, beating Bancroft-Rosalie 67-62 in two overtimes.

Falls City Sacred Heart did it twice. 1989 football, 1990 basketball, 1990 football, 1991 basketball

Grant has done it three times in C2. They won 1980 football, followed by 1981 basketball. Again in 1988 football and 1989 basketball, and 1989 football and 1990 basketball.

Guardian Angles Central Catholic won the D1 football championship in 2010, beating Creighton 45-30. The Bluejays followed that with a 2011 basketball championship, beating Howells 73-63.

Hastings St. Cecilia won the C1 football championship in 2009, beating Norfolk Catholic 26-18. They followed that up with a 2010 C1 basketball championship beating Chadron 46-40.

I knew someone would be able to pull this research off! Thanks so much Northeast. Wow on Falls City and Grant to have done it multiple times. That is nuts! Those are so special teams. Now the question..... has anyone then gone on to win a State Track team title after winning Football and Basketball??? One could even ask Football-Wrestling-Track winners? Or CC-Wrestling/BB-Track. So many options LOL! Would be amazing to see if any of those combinations have ever created a 3 sport one school state championship hat trick???

St Pats was close last year. Basketball, Track, and an almost unimaginable meltdown in golf got them runner-up. I think I read where they led after day 1 by 20-30 strokes. 😳

That has to be something not done very often in 3 sports! I wouldn't even know where to start a search on this data mining?? NSAA website?

I don't know either. Probably most likely with the multiple teams like Cambridge and Grant/Perkins County. What would have been pretty amazing is that before they were gutted with injuries I was thinking a 6 of 8 run (minus wrestling and baseball). Now with football off the table and bb more dicey, who knows.

Hopefully there is someone on here that has a great memory of a school doing it at least once. In some sort of combination. That would be really special. I would assume CC/BB/Track might be the most likely combination? Thoughts? Or FB/W/Track?

I know this is going completely off the original topic thread but the Sandy Creek girls from Fall of 96 to Spring of 98 went Runner-Up in Volleyball then proceeded to win Basketball, Track, Volleyball, Basketball and Track.

That hurts the head to think of that run. The biggest problem is holding all the trophies!

My 1991 B-R team had FCSH on the ropes at half in the semi-finals.... before crapping the bed and losing 36-26. All I remember is they had a QB that was fast as hell.

BTW, Beatrice did Basketball and Baseball back-to-back in '21. Had ONE player that contributed in any meaningful way to both teams.

During the 2009-2010 school year, St. Cecilia won 4 state championships in boys cross country (Class D), football (Class C1), boys basketball (Class C1, last of a 3peat), and boys track (Class C). There were 4 guys that were members of 3 of those teams.

This is amazing!

A bit of a detour here but but if my memory is correct which it might not be I am getting old these days, Ewing almost went 4 for 4 in 2008-2009 between the boys and girls. Girls won state volleyball and basketball (third in a row for basketball), boys won state football over St Francis and lost by 1 I believe in the state basketball final to Sterling. Not sure if it was that year or one of those years in there they finished pretty high at state golf as well.

This right here might be why people think private schools have been recruiting 😂
All jokes aside though I can’t even fathom that run. By far one of the most successful schools athletically this state has ever seen.
Now here’s the real question, when Coach Goltz retires who’s going to be confident enough to fill those shoes? And will we ever see another stretch like this to come in the future?
Winning 1 state championship in any sport is hard enough, but to win 13 in 6 years in multiple sports??? Legendary

I is very impressive but knowing these teams I will say for a private school it is possible when you are D1 pulling athletes from a pool in a city of 4000 people It is just something less than 5% of class D public schools even have an option of. 95% of class D school don't have that population to choose from in a 20 mile radius of the school and in many cases a even much less population in a larger radius of the school.
