anyone know the back story what led to Kearney catholic scheduling a game with a school as far away as Wichita?

Kearney Catholic was only given 8 games this year by the NSAA. They wanted to play 9. There are multiple reasons why the NSAA wasn't able to get them a 9th game. In my opinion the 2 biggest reasons are teams playing cross-class games and teams playing out of state games. In a perfect world there would be 14 class A games each week, 16 class B games each week,

In week 4 you have Omaha Concordia and Chadron (both C1 schools) playing class B schools. That eliminates 2 potential opponents for KCHS. You also have Mitchell and Chase County (both C1) playing class C-2 schools this week. That eliminates 2 more potential opponents. Finally, Gordon-Rushville is playing a South Dakota school....which leaves an odd # of teams left, meaning one team has nobody to play. That team was KCHS. They did what they could to find a game.

I'm not opposed to schools (especially schools in the west where there are fewer teams and more miles between those teams) playing cross class games or playing teams from out of state. I believe very strongly that those types of games should be the last games scheduled, meaning no teams get those games until the schools the NSAA is in charge of are given the 9 games they are guaranteed. Long story short, the cross class games and out of state games cost KCHS a 9th game....so they have to drive 10 hours round trip to find one.
