The NSAA Board of Directors met on Monday, June 29, 2020 at the NSAA Office in Lincoln with members present as follows:

District I - Mark Norvell, Fillmore Central
District I - Kathi Wieskamp, Lincoln Public Schools
District II - Dr. Bob Reznicek, Boys Town
District II - Thomas Lee, Omaha Northwest
District III - Dr. Jon Cerny, Bancroft-Rosalie
District IV - Dan Keyser, Sutherland
District V - Jim Kent, Dundy County-Stratton
District VI - Dr. Troy Unzicker, Alliance
Also in attendance were Kim Snyder, Nebraska Department of Education liaison; Rex Schultze, NSAA Legal Counsel.

Meeting was called to order at 8:00 a.m.

1. Moved to approve the Consent Agenda. Items on the Consent Agenda included:

- Approval of the meeting Agenda
- Approval of the Minutes of the May Board of Directors Meeting
- Approval of the Minutes of the COVID-19 Advisory Committee Meetings
- Approval of the Financial Statements

- Approval of the following cooperative sponsorship renewals for the 2020-21 and 2021-22 school years
  • Logan View and Scribner-Snyder for Volleyball and Softball
  • Norfolk, Norfolk Catholic, Lutheran High Northeast and Wisner-Pilger for Girls Swimming
  • Norfolk, Norfolk Catholic and Lutheran High Northeast for Boys Swimming
  • St. Paul and Palmer for Softball
  • Kearney and Kearney Catholic for Baseball
  • Cedar Bluffs and Mead for Girls Golf and Boys Golf
  • Nebraska City and Nebraska City Lourdes for Boys Cross Country, Girls Cross Country, Girls Golf, Boys Tennis, Wrestling, Baseball, Girls Tennis and Boys Golf
  • Lutheran High Northeast and Norfolk Catholic for Girls Soccer
  • O'Neill and O'Neill St. Mary's for Boys Cross Country, Girls Cross Country, Girls Golf, Softball, Boys Golf and Instrumental Music
  • Nebraska City, Nebraska City Lourdes and Johnson-Brock for Softball and Baseball
  • Gering and Banner County for Girls Soccer
- Approval of the following cooperative sponsorship renewal for the 2021-22 and 2022-23 school years:
  • Papillion-LaVista and Papillion-LaVista South for Boys Swimming and Girls Swimming
Motion Carried: 8-0

2. Moved to rescind the Approved Ruling for Class C1 and Class C2 Sub-District Volleyball hosting and to approve the higher seed hosting Classes C1, C2, D1 and D2 Sub-District Volleyball. Motion Carried: 8-0

3. Moved to require Activity Coaches and Sponsors to complete the NFHS online courses in Concussion in Sport, Heat Illness Prevention, and Sudden Cardiac Arrest once every three years. Motion Carried: 8-0

4. Moved to add the following approved ruling to 1.5.4.2.1, "Classification Caucus proposals initiated for consideration shall only affect the class in which it was submitted." Motion Carried: 8-0

5. Moved to use the 2019 NSAA State Speech results to determine the 2021 District Speech Assignments. Motion Carried: 6-2 (For: Norvell, Wieskamp, Reznicek, Lee, Cerny, Unzicker | Against: Keyser, Kent)

6. Moved to delay for one year three preliminary rounds at State Speech for Class B, C1, C2, D1 and D2. Motion Carried: 8-0

7. Moved to clarify the 8-man football approved ruling qualifying 32 teams to the playoffs and then reseeding the round of 16. Motion Carried: 8-0

8. The Board discussed the implementation of bowling for the 2020-21 school year.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 9:44 a.m. The board reconvened at 10:00 a.m. for a retreat/work session.
