The NSAA Board of Directors met December 6, 2017 at the Divots Conference Center in Norfolk, Nebraska with the following members present:

District I - Mark Norvell, Fillmore Central
District I - Kathi Wieskamp, Lincoln Public Schools
District II - Dr. Bob Reznicek, Boys Town
District II - Nolan Beyer, Millard Public Schools
District III - Jay Bellar, Battle Creek
District IV - Dan Keyser, Sutherland
District V - Alan Garey, Medicine Valley
District VI - Dr. Troy Unzicker, Alliance
Also in attendance were Dr. Kim Snyder, Nebraska Department of Education liaison; Rex Schultze, NSAA Legal Counsel; and Dan and Carolyn Riggs.

Meeting was called to order at 8:00 a.m.

1. Moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented. Items on the Consent Agenda included: the Minutes of the November 9, 2017 Board meeting; the Financial Report; Cooperative sponsorship renewals for Omaha Roncalli and Omaha Brownell-Talbot High Schools for boys and girls cross country; Bertrand and Loomis High Schools for boys and girls cross country; Omaha Roncalli and Omaha Concordia High Schools for girls golf; West Point-Beemer and Scribner-Snyder High Schools for boys golf; Howells-Dodge, Clarkson and Leigh High Schools for softball; Louisville and Weeping Water High Schools for softball; Crofton and Hartington-Newcastle High Schools for girls golf; Norfolk, Norfolk Catholic and Lutheran High Northeast High Schools for softball; Grand Island Central Catholic, Doniphan-Trumbull, Heartland Lutheran and Wood River High Schools for softball; Grand Island Central Catholic and Northwest High Schools for boys tennis; Lawrence-Nelson and Sandy Creek High Schools for boys and girls cross country; St. Paul and Palmer High Schools for softball; and Ralston and Omaha Mercy High Schools for girls golf. Motion Carried: 8-0

2. Board discussed plans for the 2018 Unified Track and Field exhibition events and wheelchair events.

3. Moved to approve Weeping Water High School's Department of Education amended enrollment numbers and Lourdes Central Catholic High School's amended enrollment numbers. Motion Carried: 8-0

4. Board discussed the January NSAA District Meetings including proposals, Board Reports, elections and staff attendance.

5. Moved to amend NSAA Approved Ruling 2.11.4 regarding athlete ejections such that if an athlete is ejected in the final game of the season the suspension will carry over to the following season of the same sport. Motion Carried: 8-0

6. Moved to include clarifying language to the football point system tiebreaker for seeding and wild card playoff qualification. Motion Carried: 8-0

7. Moved to extend Custom Sports t-shirt and souvenir sales agreement until May 31, 2023. Motion Carried: 8-0

8. Executive Director Dr. Jim Tenopir reported on the reprimand report; the State School Boards Convention; NFHS State Award for Outstanding Service; National Athletic Directors Conference; NFHS Winter Meeting; and a Maxwell High School's student domicile change.

9. Moved to enter executive session at 9:18 a.m. for the stated purpose of discussing the Executive Director search. Jay Bellar and Troy Unzicker recused themselves from the meeting. Motion Carried: 6-0

10. Moved to come out of Executive Session at 10:13 a.m. Jay Bellar and Troy Unzicker had recused themsevles from the meeting and the discussion. Motion Carried: 6-0

There being no further items, the Board adjourned the meeting at 10:20 a.m. The next meeting of the NSAA Board of Directors will be held January 17, 2018 at 8:30 a.m. for interview of executive director candidates and will meet in regular session on January 18, 2018 at 8:00 a.m. at the NSAA Office in Lincoln, Nebraska.
