O'Neill vs Madison

Why did Madison forfeit to Oneill?
Injuries, suspensions, other?
talked to guy from Madison today, they just dont have the numbers, he said they started season with 28 kids and half are freshman and sophmores, cant compete in C1 with those numbers. seems like a deceasing interest in football in madison, not an easy solution to there problem

It looked like they had about 30 out for Junior High Football.

I wonder how much of the enrollment at Madison is choosing to go elsewhere. Especially kids in the country, Battle Creek, Stanton, Humphrey, HSF.

I wonder if they are losing kids to Lutheran High as well?
From what I have heard is that a lot of the football kids have gone to Lutheran High. Apparently there is a Lutheran School in Madison that the kids attend when they are small and then attend Lutheran High for HS. Just something I heard, dont know how many kids or the quality of the players. I would say that if I was a HS student that was interested in football I would look at another option, as there just seems to be very little interest in football in Madison, maybe that will change if junior high numbers are up or they have a youth program to motivate kids when they are younger.

If I were a high schooler I would look at another option as well if the school isn't putting forth the effort in football.

Lots of other good public and private school options for kids which isn't a bad thing.

It is bad for those 30 kids, but parents make choices for their kids all the time, not just for athletics. Lyons Township high school in Illinois is an example that I am familiar with. The science department has classes that kids in small towns can only dream of. Look at their offerings in the list below. Ask yourself, would I be upset if a parent helped their child transfer to a new school to be able to take classes that interested him? If the answer is no, then to me the answer should be the same for transferring to take advantage of an athletic program.

It's just a tough situation I'm sure for all involved and takes a special group of kids/parents to change it. Need to start getting some success and kids having pride to get them to stay. Maybe if they are having the success in JH, they will stick together and want to be that group that can put Madison on the football map! Hope it works out.

I agree. You need some kids/parents/coaches who are motivated to make Madison better and not just complain about. Start programs when kids are younger, have camps, etc.

Easier said than done in Madison, more important issues than football and it is not the most popular sport there. Many of the parents that are interested in Fottball do not keep their kids in the local community and play youth sports in Norfolk or other surrounding communities, as their kids will not/do not attend Madison for High School. I know they have had some camps in the past.

It's true... the grade school is Trinity Lutheran. Also, Norfolk Catholic has a transfer from Madison that will play next year.... had to sit out this year. Don't know if he'll be any good other than hearing he's extremely strong.
