Why wont the Coaches go to 24 teams in the playoffs and a 9 game regular season or just 24 teams and top 8 get bye first round ? The 32 is way to much a team that is 2-6 or 3-5 doesnt need to make the playoffs

Or just play 9 regular season games and have a 16 team playoff like the other classes.

How they do it now is so much better than the old way though, and it took a long time to get it right.

My biggest issue with the 8 man postseason is the high seed doesn't host throughout until Lincoln. It's ridiculous that Stanton this year has a pretty good chance of having to go on the road in the quarterfinals because the 9 seed beat the 8 seed. The high seed deserves the right to play at home if they keep winning.

I have heard a lot of coaches say they would rather see a team that doesn't deserve to make the playoffs get in rather than a team that deserves it get left out - tough for those seniors that get left behind their senior year. I agree with this sentiment.

I think you make a good point, my only argument is if your strength of schedule is weaker - thinking here maybe a Cross County or Sandy Creek (granted you have somewhat of an opportunity to schedule stronger non-district opponents - though not guaranteed) and your points are low, you may have a better team traveling to a weaker team. But, I can also see that it would then reward the host for getting through a tougher schedule...

who deserves to get in outside the top 24 ? Just curious

I am unsure on 24, but I know a few years back there was a scenario where a team that made the state championship would not have gotten into playoffs under a 16-team format like Class C.

One way to look at it is with 32 teams the first round is essentially week 9 for the top 50% teams. I'd venture to guess that bottom 50%, whether due to participation #'s/challenges or competitiveness, don't need a 9th game.

Good point

The proposals for 3 8-man classes would give all 8-man teams a 9th game and move playoffs down to 16 teams in each. It would also create 3 classes that were the same in size to A, C1, C2, and 6-man.

Hard to say. The November 8 district meetings will be a good indication. There are two districts with the proposal, so we'll see where that goes in those two meetings. It might give us an indication of if it has a chance in February when the final vote happens.
