What is everyone hearing? Lots of stuff being discussed it sounds like from All-Metro schedule with Omaha teams, etc.

Aug. 3 is when OPS will make their announcement for the school year and on athletics. That appears to be the big day to watch. NSAA had some sort of meeting this past week with schools as well to discuss potential options and lay everything out on the table. Nothing was finalized obviously, just more of a discussion is my understanding from the coaches and AD's I talked to.

Seems like A could be going in a lot of directions, but you get the impression B to D could be status quo.

I felt really good about things a month ago but now I get more and more pessimistic each day. Not just for sports but for school in general.

In the end none of this works unless people start taking the necessary steps and precautions to keep buildings open and students and staff safe. It only takes a couple of irresponsible twits to compromise an entire building and lead us right back to remote learning and the cancellation of sports. In turn that will lead to lower academic achievement and a rise in dropout rates. Every school has a segment of their population that is only in school for sports and other extracurricular activities and having to shut these down again would be catastrophic.

If you want schools to open and sports to be played do your part to make it happen. Whining about masks and having to stay home from the bar on Friday nights is a small price to pay to ensure the kids are given every opportunity for in person instruction and the chance to be on the court or field this fall.

OPS decision on August 3rd will have a significant impact on class A, obviously. When it is all said and done, I think there will be a lot of schools that elect not to play at all. The scheduling will be a fluid thing because of that. I would be surprised if there was a team in the state that played the schedule they have right now.

If Omaha goes with an All Metro schedule, what do people think will happen with teams such as Kearney, North Platte, Grand Island? I assume they along with Norfolk, Columbus, Fremont etc would form some sort of schedule among themselves. If Omaha makes this decision, I could assume LPS would be right behind them. Also, how much input, if any, would the NSAA have in this? Tons of questions nobody knows the answers to right now.

I could see the first move being to play district-only games.

UNK just announced their league (MIAA) is pushing back fall sports to September 28. They are planning to play 7 games this fall and then three in the spring.

I am curious what anyone is solving in just playing their conference (NCAA) or just their district (high school)? Anyone know what advantage that has in preventing a health crisis? There has to be some positive because it is happening all over....I just don't get it.

I see the announcement today more as they didn't make big changes or cancel today. They are moving ahead AS IF the season will happen. Sean's right, August 3 is the next big roadblock.

It feels like the NSAA was smart to get out in front of this. Let their members know. This then puts more pressure on OPS. If OPS pulls the plug fall sports, things will never be the same again. It will be a mass exodus of athletic talent if others play and they don't. Teams like Prep, Bellevue West, Westside, etc. will load up on their best players if they can't play and all the others do. The NSAA will have to grant them immediate eligibility.
