Do you think NSAA will ever allow 7th and 8th grade to wrestle? It would make the lower weight more competitive.

NO, i doubt the NSAA would allow this, we are already behind the times in how they do things so this would just add to the chaos that surrounds the nsaa

i believe south Dakota also allows 7&8th graders to play basketball, in fact i believe Yankton has a kid on their team that might be the leading scorer for them.

Correct, South Dakota does allow it. As does Minnesota.

As far as Yankton goes, you are talking about Matthew Mors. He is a 6-7, 230 pound freshman this year, but has played at the varsity level in Yankton for the last two years. As an 8th grader he averaged 22 points a game.

Does anybody else think the sport of wrestling, at least in Class D for sure, has fallen miserably? I saw guys winning state championships in some weights that couldn't have sniffed a medal even just 5 years ago. I don't think there are many kids willing to put in any extra work, effort, dedication or drive to do the extra things to be really good, because they don't have to get to the top because there are so many more kids that are mediocre to bad these days. Not just to many years ago, the state qualifiers, but non-placers, were at least competitive, but now you see so many bad records qualifying at state and so many 10-20 loss guys advancing to the semifinals or better. I truly think the overall quality is really bad. Not many kids at all these days that are out there doing any extra things on their own time when no one else is looking! That's how you get to elite status and those things aren't happening because you don't have to these days. You can be mediocre or less and still win state championships now. Very sad. Time for schools to start cooping or the NSAA to wake up and allow junior high kids to wrestle at the high school level or go down to three classes in wrestling. The numbers just aren't there anymore in Class D for sure. The State Tournament is just to watered down in Class D. All you have to do is look at how many teams have 5 wrestlers or less on their team. Actually, this applies to all sports in Nebraska IMO.
