I think this should be something offered in the spring to Nebraska High School athletes. If we want to see more talented players, let's give them the spring to work on it. Just helmet and shorts. I really think it would be beneficial. Thoughts?

Well that would be neat to see kids get better by having more playing time, but then track teams would also get smaller as high school kids can only do one sport per season. There's also the chance of kids getting burnt out of football if they do it in the spring as well.

I disagree a bit with the "one sport a season" idea just a tad. I've seen quite a few athletes over the years play two sports simultaneously. Especially coupling a team sport with a running sport or a sport where practice is little more than bp and catch like softball and baseball. I think its doable but should be abbreviated.

I think he means that they can officially compete in the NSAA in one sport per season. Many kids practice other sports while being an official member of that season's particular sport. Hence hitting bp in the fall etc... If 7 on 7 were an official sport though they wouldn't be able to be on both the 7 on 7 and track teams simultaneously.

I believe a football athlete taking part in track & field will bring much more benefits to their athleticism, which is what kids need more of in Nebraska. Summer is a better time for 7 on 7 to hone their football skills. Lift in the morning, 7 on 7 in the afternoon and a legion baseball game at night. Now that's a dream summer for most athletes.

Either having it as a sanctioned NSAA sport or just having it as an activity kids can practice against neighboring schools. I think would be beneficial. Act as if it is a JV game.

A lot of kids don't want to go out for track or golf or baseball. Which I'm all for going out for a spring sport, but I knew a lot of kids who didn't go out for track because they hated it and just wanted to play football.

7 on 7 can get conditioning in, improving football skills, team skills and it gives kids more opportunities.

How are they allowing kids in smaller schools run CC in the Fall and play Volleyball as well?

I respect your opinion Northeast but strongly disagree. I only stated that TRACK is a good option for football players in the spring(NOT golf or baseball.) As for kids hating Track, well I guess I stop forcing my kids to do homework because they hate that too. While we're at it just let them run the school because they hate our rules. In my day, it was a strongly UN-WORDED rule that if you didn't go out for track, good luck gaining playing time on the FB team. That's what should be happening. Multi-sport athletes are much healthier and successful than specialization athletes.

Disagree with having 7 on 7 as a sport. Completely. I used to be a proponent of having all schools offer baseball in the spring like most Class A schools do. After a few years of thinking, I decided that Track is wonderful for athletes. It helps teach kids how to compete against themselves.

I threw the shot and discus in high school. I never looked at it as competing against an opponent. I always was trying to get a new PR. If it got me higher in the placements and earning more "team points" then awesome. If not, I didn't really care. Going out for Track taught me the importance in having a mentality to compete against myself. Battle my mind, and self doubt...

You are taking this way too seriously. I would like it fine if a kid could go out for track/baseball, and have the option to participate in 7 on 7 football.

I agree multi sports athletes are successful, but playing football and basketball is multi-sport, and having 7 on 7 in the spring is something else for kids to do if they don't go out for track.

Like I said, it doesn't even have to be a sanctioned NSAA sport. It would be fun to see 7 on 7 football on a Monday night in April. Builds team chemistry, and gives the kids another activity to take part in.
