Class D-1

WEST BRACKET

No. 16 Twin Loup (2-6) at No. 1 Creighton (9-0). Twin Loup opened the season by losing to No. 1 Hemingford, now faces No. 1 Creighton in its playoff opener. Creighton has dominated a schedule that's included qualifiers Hartington-Newcastle, Howells-Dodge, Bloomfield and Elgin/Pope John.

No. 9 Neligh-Oakdale (5-3) at No. 8 Elgin/Pope John (5-3). These teams played back on Oct. 17, with Elgin/PJ claiming a 36-20 victory, part of its five-game winning streak to close the regular season. Neligh-Oakdale won five of six, its losses to unbeaten Fullerton, one-loss Burwell and Elgin/PJ.

No. 12 Arapahoe (5-3) at No. 5 Elm Creek (8-1). In the regular season Elm Creek, whose only loss is by a touchdown to red-hot Blue Hill, claimed a 42-36 victory. Arapahoe has lost three of its last four, all to qualifiers.

No. 13 Perkins County (4-4) at No. 4 Burwell (7-1). Perkins County makes it to the playoffs after a winless 2013, good for the Plainsmen, and will travel to face a Burwell team that's won seven in a row, including Week 9 win over previously unbeaten Amherst, locking up the district title.

No. 14 Shelton (4-4) at No. 3 Hemingford (8-0). Shelton showed some guts in the final week of the regular season, beating favored Arapahoe to win its way in. Defending Class D-1 state runner-up Hemingford hasn't been challenged all season. Only twice so far have the Bobcats scored less than 72 points. In those games they scored 60 and 48.

No. 11 North Central (6-2) at No. 6 Blue Hill (5-3). North Central's the only team to beat Burwell, with its losses to qualifiers Neligh-Oakdale and Elgin/PJ. No team wants much to do with Blue Hill these days, as the Bobcats have won five in a row after opening with three losses to ranked teams.

No. 10 Ansley-Litchfield (5-3) at No. 7 Amherst (7-1). Ansley-Litchfield has had a real nice season - its three losses coming to qualifiers with a combined record of 20-4 - while Amherst will try to shake Friday's loss to Burwell.

No. 15 Sutherland (3-5) at No. 2 Fullerton (8-0). Sutherland has mostly won the games it figured to, with three of its losses to 8-0 Hemingford, 7-1 Maxwell and 7-1 Elm Creek. Fullerton capped a perfect regular season that includes a big win over traditional power Howells-Dodge.

EAST BRACKET

No. 16 Cross County (3-5) at No. 1 Friend (8-0). You have to be happy for Cross County, which was winless last year and couldn't field a team for a game due to low numbers. Friend turned heads with its 36-34 win over then-No. 1 BDS and has also beaten 6-2 qualifier Diller-Odell and 6-2 East Butler, which is not eligible for postseason play.

No. 9 High Plains Community (4-4 ) at No. 8 Diller-Odell (6-2). Speaking of Diller-Odell, the Griffins have lost only to top ten teams BDS and Friend while High Plains can better that, with four losses coming to top ten teams with a combined record of, gulp, 31-1.

No. 12 Pawnee City (3-5) at No. 5 Guardian Angels Central Catholic (8-0). GACC's high water mark was a 48-34 win over Howells-Dodge, but another solid win was the 24-20 verdict over 6-2 qualifier Scribner-Snyder.

No. 13 Cedar Bluffs (4-4) at No. 4 Howells-Dodge (5-3). Cedar's another feel-good story, going from winless to playoff qualifier, sweeping its last three games. As you might have heard, Howells-Dodge has had some decent playoff luck over the years.

No. 14 Lourdes Central Catholic (4-4) at No. 3 Heartland (8-0). Heartland hasn't scored less than 50 points in a game so far this season, three times going over 80. Lourdes gets in thanks to a four-game win streak at midseason.

No. 11 Clarkson/Leigh (4-4) at No. 6 Hartington-Newcastle (6-2). Clarkson/Leigh has lost four of its last five but does own wins against qualifiers Cedar Bluffs and Cross County. H-N, in its first year as a combined program, won its first five before losing its season finale to unbeaten Creighton.

No. 10 Scribner-Snyder (6-2) at No. 7 Bloomfield. Scribner-Snyder suffered its losses, to 8-0 GACC and 6-2 East Butler, at midseason. Bloomfield has lost to unbeaten Creighton and traditional power 5-3 and also owns a triple-overtime win against Hartington-Newcastle.

No. 15 Omaha Christian Academy (2-6) at BDS (7-1). BDS suffered that narrow loss to unbeaten Friend but has also beaten five qualifiers, including 6-2s Diller-Odell and Giltner. OCA gets in with two wins mostly because all six of its losses are to qualifiers.
