The NSAA Board of Directors met on May 19, 2023 at the Embassy Suites in LaVista with the following members present:

District I - Kara Graham, Lincoln Southeast​
District I - Dr. Dana Wiseman, Sutton​
District II - Dr. Nick Wemhoff, Fort Calhoun​
District II - Thomas Lee, Omaha Westview​
District III - Dr. Jon Cerny, Bancroft-Rosalie​
District V - Robert Drews, Holdrege​
District VI - Dr. Troy Unzicker, Alliance​
Absent: District IV - Ryan Ruhl, Centura

Also in attendance: Kim Snyder, Nebraska Department of Education liaison; Dr. Zainab Rida, Nebraska Department of Education; Bobby Truhe, NSAA Legal Counsel; Darren Tobey, Superintendent - Broken Bow; Brian Hansen, NSAA Baseball Official.

Meeting was called to order at 8:00 a.m.

1. Moved to approve the Consent Agenda. Items on the Consent Agenda included:

- approval of the meeting Agenda as presented​
- approval of the Minutes of the April 6, 2023 Girls Wrestling Committee meeting​
- approval of the Minutes of the April 13, 2023 Board of Directors meeting​
- approval of the Minutes of the April 14, 2023 Representative Assembly​
- approval of the Financial Statements​
- approval of the following cooperative sponsorship renewals for the 2023-24 and 2024-25 schools years:​
  • Elba and Centura for Wrestling
  • York and McCool Junction for Wrestling
  • Logan View and Scribner-Snyder for Boys Basketball and Girls Basketball
  • Columbus Scotus and David City Aquinas for Boys Soccer and Girls Soccer
  • Superior and Deshler for Wrestling and Girls Wrestling
- approval of the following cooperative sponsorship renewals for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 school years:​
  • Eustis-Farnam and Elwood for Football
Motion Carried: 7-0

2. Moved to ratify the Class A Caucus wrestling state championship seeding proposal. Motion Carried: 7-0

3. Moved to ratify the Class B Caucus softball contest limitation proposal. Motion Carried: 7-0

4. Moved to adopt NSAA Bylaw 2.12.2 Approved Ruling: "A Nebraska Teaching Certificate shall be defined as any certificate or permit issued by the Nebraska Department of Education that allows an individual to teach." Motion Carried: 7-0

5. Moved to approve the 2023-24 NSAA Calendar. Motion Carried: 7-0

6. Moved to accept the resignation of Dan Masters with regret. Motion Carried: 7-0

7. The Board thanked Ryan Ruhl for his service and welcomed Broken Bow Superintendent Darren Tobey as the new District 4 Board Member.

There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned at 8:59 a.m.

The next meeting of the NSAA Board of Directors will be a work session/retreat on June 14-15, 2023 in Kearney.
