If I were the Plattsmouth AD, I'd consider forfeiting.

I don't know how you can justify the time and expense of a 900 mile round trip for a playoff game when your team finished the season with a losing record.

With five teams in the Class B field under .500, should that bracket just have eight teams?

Perhaps for this season it would've made sense.

Class B is weak this year because of the (dumb) decision by OPS and LPS to field varsity teams at the new schools that opened with mostly 9th and 10th graders.

Had Aurora, McCook and Omaha Roncalli remained in Class B, it would've made this a stronger field.

Or should they change the upper/lower bounds to have a greater number of teams in the class?

If going to 8 teams, do we have a ten-game regular season to align the playoffs to be the same across the classes for quarterfinal, semifinal, and championship rounds?

There are 26 teams listed on the NSAA pages for Class B.
Two don't exist yet (Gretna East, Lincoln Standing Bear).
Two more didn't finish the season (Lincoln Northwest, Omaha Buena Vista).
A few more were pretty helpless (Lexington, Omaha Westview, Gering, Hastings).
So really, teams only needed to be better than two of the remaining teams to make the playoffs this season.

I would say this and next year will be anomalies because of the number of new teams (5).

Also, look at Ralston. At 4-5, they only beat teams who were Div 4 and had a combined record of 3-33. Hastings was their only win over an opponent who isn't in the first year of having a program. Had Ralston beaten Mount Michael, they would have been 5-4 and all wins would have still been against teams with Div 4 standing as Mount Michael would then be 2-7 (and a combined 5-40 opponents' record among Ralston's wins in that case).

Personally, I'd err on the side of having too many teams than leaving good teams out.

That being said, it's really the top 5 and then everyone else in Class B this year.

I'll throw in Gross actually opted up to Class B this year. Without them, the top of Class B isn't nearly as strong.

Neglected to comment on this part. Agree, dumb decision. Props to Westview for making it through the season with just freshmen and sophomores.

Was Hastings eligible for the playoffs? I thought they were supposed to be the 32nd school in Class A, but opted down.
