How can a team that plays only 5 games get into playoffs vs teams that play a full schedule? What keeps a team from canceling games that don't benefit them making playoffs, not hard to find 1 covid case and not play a team that hurts your points?

Example: Cross County vs East Butler. This game does nothing for Cross County, beating East Butler will hurt their point total and potentially cost them a #1 seed which becomes important when they re seed after the first round this year. Why would they risk all of that for an injury and guranteed drop in points.

Granted they hopefully would not think that way but it does open the door of possibility.

Wahoo benefitted a bunch from not playing louisville. They were likely going to be a 5 seed. Now they may end up with a 3. Assuming they win out.

I don't think the "Seeds" matter this year. With teams playing different amount of games, I think it is more likely you get a team seeded 8th or 10th or something that is probably closer to a 3rd or 4th seed. I also think C1 has some teams like Lincoln Christian (Flexbone), Central City (empty), Kearney Catholic (Air Raid Spread) that are potential nightmare first round matchups.
Bold Prediction: There are going to be some teams that are 6-2, 7-1, 7-2, 8-1 that lose by 28+ in the first round. Some of the teams that get blown out will be the higher seed.

The benefit of not playing a game at this point of the season far outweighs any benefit from playing a replacement game that doesn’t help you.

Finding a replacement game with the risk of injury and contracting Covid just to play an exhibition game is blowing my mind. I understood it early, but now that we’re in week 7, no way would I look for a game if I was a top team in our class.

I understand what you are saying, but I disagree. The entire season could get shut down at any point in time. If I can find a game, I am finding a game. Whether it counts towards power points or not is of little importance to me. On top of that, I don't think there is any evidence to support the suggestion that playing a game on Friday brings risk of contracting the virus. I might be living under a rock, but have there been any instances in Nebraska where a positive test result was traced back to an opponent from the previous game?

NSAA website is reporting that BDS has an open date this week, insinuating that their game with Giltner is cancelled. But so far, the two schools websites and social media pages are still showing that game as on (although JH and JV contests between the two schools have been called off this week).

Not necessarily from players in the game but the blending of fans.

I have received information and can confirm Cambridge @ Hi-Line has been canceled due to COVID-19. Cambridge again being the reason for canceling as they continue to struggle with COVID issues.

Looks like Freeman and Tri County is cancelled now as well, as NSAA website showing Tri County as being available to play.

Also showing St. Edward as open to play, insinuating COVID issues at Stuart.

So far, anyone who’s played Cross County has had COVID issues the following week.... I’d cancel playing them just to avoid getting the rest of your season canceled.

I'd say the teams that played them are still recovering from getting the crap knocked out of them.
You'd cancel against them because you'd be afraid of your kids getting rolled.

Clarkson-Leigh had no such issue. They did have an issue with the injury bug after playing XC though.

H-TR-S will play at Johnson County Central in a replacement game

So far according to the nsaa website no team has cancelled the next week after having to play Cross County. Pretty ridiculous allegation to make without any facts to back up that hideous statement. Maybe check your facts or show documentation to back that up before posting something that idiotic. These are 14-18 your old kids that I’m sure just want to play football. It sure looks like Cross County is having a great year. Why start rumors on an anonymous chat board to hurt kids? Pathetic

Just asking a question - can a team cancel a game this season over concerns of playing a team whose school has had COVID cases?

Yes, they can if they have legitimate concerns. However, they are not allowed to play a make-up or replacement game.
