District track meets take place this week. The following posts will detail the district assignments and qualifying processes in each class.

CLASS A
Class A has four districts of eight schools each, for a total of 32 schools. Class A district meets will be held on Tuesday, May 13

Individual Running Events
The top four finishers in each event will qualify for the state meet, plus the next EIGHT (8) fastest times of the non-qualifiers, regardless of place in a finals event for a maximum of 24 qualifiers. If there is a tie for the final qualifying spot of the non-qualifiers, the tie will be broken by comparing the times to the thousandths.

Relays
The top three finishers in the relay races will qualify for the state meet, plus the next FOUR (4) fastest times of the non-qualifiers, regardless of place in a finals event, for a maximum of 16 qualifiers. If there is a tie for the final qualifying spot of the non-qualifiers, the tie will be broken by comparing the times to the thousandths.

Field Events (Long Jump, Triple Jump, Shot Put, Discus)
The top four finishers in the long jump, triple jump, shot put and discus will qualify for the state meet, plus the next EIGHT (8) best performances of the non-qualifiers across all districts. If the case of a tie for the last qualifying spot, all of those tied shall qualify.

Field Events (Pole Vault, High Jump)
The top four finishers in the pole vault and high jump will qualify for the state meet, plus all who equal or exceed the automatic qualifying mark at the 2025 NSAA Class A District Meet. The automatic qualifying mark is determined by using the average height of 8th place at the State Meet for the past three years. In the pole vault, athletes must clear 9' 6" (boys) and 6' 6" (girls) in order to qualify for the state meet.

- Regardless of place would mean that in RELAY events at district meets, any relay team who finished 4th-7th place in their district meet could qualify for the state meet if their time was one of the four fastest times of non-qualifiers from all districts submitted. It would not matter what place in their respective district they finished, but that the time was one of the four fastest of the non-qualifiers

- Regardless of place would mean that in INDIVIDUAL RUNNING EVENTS with preliminaries and finals (100, 200, 100/110 hurdles), the next eight fastest times of the non-qualifiers may come from "Finals" competition only. This means in the events with preliminaries and finals, 5th-8th place could qualify for the state track meet if their district final time was one of the next eight fastest times of the non-qualifiers from all districts submitted. In the individual running events that are "finals only" (400, 800, 1600, 3200, 300 Hurdles), 5th-12th place could qualify for the state track meet if their district finals time was one of the next eight fastest times of the non-qualifiers from all districts submitted.

- In the event the Fully Automatic Timing (FAT) system would fail in any district in any running event, any individual running event would qualify the top 6 places and any relay event would qualify the top 4 places. This would pertain only to those events were the FAT failed. In the event of a tie for the last qualifying spot, none of those tied shall qualify in that event.

This topic kind of took over the "8-man football changes coming" thread. Thought maybe it would be best to start a new thread. We've been down this road before on this forum, but the D3 addition opens a new aspect of the conversation. UNL has said Memorial Stadium will not be available for a 3rd day. Officials at the NSAA have said they don't see it feasible to have 4 games in one day. That brings us to a crossroads...what do we do with 8-man championship games? Is it just D3 that needs a home? Or do we move them all? If we move 8-man, do we move everything?

Positives to playing in Memorial Stadium
-Its the best facility in the state.
-For some it is a dream come true
-It allows PBS to provide excellent TV Coverage

Negatives to playing in Memorial Stadium
-Huge venue seems to make the crowd less impactful. It appears the stadium is empty, even though there are several thousand people there.
-NFHS rules apply to HS FB in Nebraska, but UNL's goal posts are narrower (all college goal posts are narrower). Same with hash marks. In 2006 Valentine had a PAT clank off the post in overtime. It was the difference in the game. We would never even consider this in basketball, playing on a different size goal.
-The western part of the state is always on the road
-Playing a state championship game at 10:45 in the morning is pretty anticlimactic. That is necessary to get 3 games in per day.

I'm interested to see what happens. Realistically I don't see anyway the finals leave Lincoln. I think they should, but I am usually in the minority on that among adults. NSAA has to make some decisions about where some state finals are played. The 6-man game in Kearney is awesome. I dont anticipate that leaving. Maybe a day of 8-man moves out there? From a geographical standpoint that might make sense. I think a larger percentage of the make-up of 8man schools comes from west of Lincoln. That said, if playing at Memorial Stadium is such a perk I don't think it is fair to deny the 8-man kids that opportunity. Almost need a rotation where one year the A, B, C1, C2 finals are in Lincoln and the D1, D2, D3, D6 finals are in Kearney. Next year it flips.
