Class C Baseball was added so teams could play against "like sized schools".... It seems to me that there should be 4 classes for softball as well following that logic.

Are there enough schools playing to fill a fourth class?

This fall, there will be 115 softball teams in 3 classes. Last spring, there were 69 baseball teams. I understand there will likely be teams adding baseball next spring with the change, so I'd assume closer to 75 teams maybe.

Gotcha.

That's gotta be a misprint, right? It must be Hastings Adams Central. You're right about the distance, and I'd think that Holdrege + Adams Central's enrollment number would be a lot higher than 208.

It's girl enrollment only.

Holdrege/Adams Central is right. Both schools were facing short-term (next two or three years) numbers shortages, but felt that long-term the programs were still wanted. Here's a story.

I think there were several dynamics in play: parents, transfers, parents. But, I really don't know much else.

Classifications have changed slightly in the three sports above as Lincoln Pius X, Omaha Buena Vista and Omaha Westview have opted up to Class A in volleyball, softball and cross country

I am not sure if your comment is promoting another class for softball, or if it is opposing the added class for baseball.

The size disparity in a 2 Class baseball system was nearly insurmountable for the smaller schools in what was Class B baseball. Central City seems to be the only consistent exception from what I see, and it has been pointed out that Central City (for whatever reason) manages to avoid the tougher Class B schools until State Tournament time. Class B contained schools with an 8X enrollment from smallest to largest. Baseball needed another Class.

Softball on the other hand doesn't have the extreme size differences that Baseball had. If the decision was made to add another class to Softball, I wouldn't have a problem with it. If Baseball is going to have a 25 team per class average, I see nothing wrong with something similar for Softball.

It's both. I just believe if there's 20-25 in a class for baseball, it just seems right to bethe same in softball. The spread in B softball is pretty large as well.
One of the selling points of C Baseball was playing "like sized schools". There's nothing "like sized" about the teams in B softball IMO.

Aurora is toward the bottom end of B softball. Aurora has been typically a Small B, Big C1 School in most sports. Chadron is near the top of class C softball, Chadron also teeters on the edge of C1 and B in several other sports. There is no issue in softball. Baseball will grow from 20-25 in a class just because of the growth that was intended when creating an additional class. The discrepancy in size is what stifled the growth of baseball, especially west of Kearney.

We'll just agree to disagree. You'd see growth if softball went to 4 classes as well.

Enough growth for a fourth class? Fall is a tough time for girls athletics with golf, vb, xc and sb all competing for athletes.

Think you'd see some coops that would currently be B sized. With 4 classes, they'd be C and not get lumped in with schools like Hastings, Elkhorn, Skutt, etc.

A totally different issue, but a lot of the schools in top 1/2 of B are around larger metro areas & many players on those teams specialize & practice SB year round.

Great observation. Likewise with Baseball.
