It is apparent the 8 man coaches need to agree on a 9 game regular season and 16 team playoff. I present my case.

D1 - Two lower seeds won. Only one game in bracket was under 14 points. .

D2 - One lower seed won. There games under 14 points.

The current format doesn't create what i would call playoff football. At least call them qualifying rounds. Regionalize the qualifying round to match opponents that haven't met in the regular season and then seed the tournament. Calling these first round games playoff games is watering down the system.

Discuss.

With 54 teams, taking 32 of them seems like a lot. It would be easy to follow the A-C2 teams, but instead run a 24 team bracket with a first round bye for the top 8 teams. I think that would be a better way to run the 16 team brackets right now. Deserving teams are being left out.

Mullen was the upset of a 5 over a 12, HOWEVER Stuart was pretty beat up from CWC 4 games earlier. I realize that is part of football but in 8 man that is big. And before you say I am making excuses I am from Mullen and like the win I am just stating the facts.

I have no problem not calling the first round playoffs. But i think 16 is to small of a playoff bracket. 24 would be interesting in a playoff. I know upsets dont happen every year but if upsets did happen every year than that would mean our power point system is wrong. 8 man football has changed into so much spread that winning by 24 points is relatively close. I also feel that many teams have gone away from teaching defense and they just focus on offense. The teams that have won state or made it far in 8 man are those that can play defense. This is my opinion

I thought the first week of play was considered the qualifying round for the playoffs, is that not right. I think the 24 team would be interesting, I just don't see whats wrong with the 32 teams. Upsets do happen and teams get hot or have had injuries or have played a tough schedule and lost some close games and get into the playoffs and make some noise.
