What are everyone's thoughts on the All Nebraska teams and Individual All State teams by class. Have any good players been left off the list or put on honorable mention list? Sometimes these teams have players from Lincoln and Omaha area more than areas in which these papers are not located. Just want some thoughts on this.

All-State teams in my opinion are subjective with the bias toward local athletes. In the smaller classes it's easy for outstanding players who are not skill position players (they can have big stats) to be left off. You get a player who plays say ILB and OG with a large number of tackles including TFL but his team doesn't get into the playoffs. He will get local recognition (all-district, etc.) but almost zero statewide notice. I know of one athlete who plays those positions is a junior on a C2 squad, has had lots of NAIA and Division 2 interest, was invited out to Wyoming for a game but hasn't received the same amount of statewide press as other athletes whose teams made the playoffs.

That doesn't mean that I think all-state team players are not deserving, but that it's almost impossible to get all the best players at their positions with the main cause being logistics, meaning location.

Yeah, I agree, it is a shame a kid like that can't get more recognition in the state, but if colleges know about him and he can get a scholarship that is great! To me the Lincoln Journal is more bias than Omaha in regard to athletes in their areas. I know of a smaller class player that has had D1 and D2 interest as well as offers from every NAIA school and wasn't good enough for third team Super State. It is a large area to cover, but it could be better

I like the 1st Team picks from both papers but the honorable mention list is a mess. There are teams that went deep in the playoffs with only a couple of hon mentions and you have teams with losing records that had 3,4,5 players on the list? That makes no sense. EX....I saw a 1st team RB who only had one of his lineman on the hon mention list? Im pretty sure that at least 2 or 3 more of those linemen deserve at least an hon mention.
There are just way too many players listed on the hon mention. Just my thoughts. Happy New Year to everybody.

Yes I agree there are way to many honorable mention players. A 7-3 team that won a first round playoff game by a blowout and eventually lost in the second round in a nail biter to the #1 rated team in the state, had no All-Sate picks and only 3 honorable mention picks. While a team they beat by 50 points, who also hasn't won a game in over two years had 4 of their players make honorable mention. The rationale just doesn't fit. If the win less team supposedly has that many good players (one more than the 7-3 team), shouldn't they at least be competitive with that team and get at least one win over some lesser team? I know, there's a lot of players statewide and someone gets left out, it's gonna happen I get it and the coaches just nominate their own players for honorable mention, but come on then let's be realistic with the nominations. This just turns into another participation award!

You do realize that if your coach nominates a kid for all state they automatically get honorable mention The joke is on the coaches with 5 wins or less that nominate 4 kids for all state
