Bad records happens for subs in hoops all the time. My biggest issue is now with 10 sub winner & 6 WCs making district finals, why are they still doing the west to East only & not taking north/south geography into account. Subs that have Pierce/Fairbury, Ponca/Malcolm, & Pender/Wymore makes zero sense.

Yeah. But it shouldn't. You are rewarding those teams for crappy seasons. Punishing those who have been good all year. 1 or 2 deserving teams will get left out of their shot at state.

There are a couple of proposals to do a true serpentine with the top 10 in points hosting. Hope it passes
I have been a supporter of this for the past several years. If you don't want to do a true serpentine, at least do the top 10 this way, and mix everyone else in according to geography. Sometimes the goal needs to be progress rather than perfection.

If it works for baseball to serpentine, why not softball? If you can do something for another sport, stay consistent and use it for others. There is no reason the whole state can't do what A is doing. One way or another teams are going to have to travel this time of year. I can see how you could modify slightly for geography by using groups of 10, but just serpentine the thing and make it work. Right now good teams will be eliminated from even having a chance to play in a substate game if they are in a loaded district. Rewarding teams who aren't as good just because of where they fall on a map doesn't help anyone. I'm not interested in how it was done in 1989 either, I lived that already. We can use the points system and make things fair for everyone top to bottom. Class B has 39 teams so you run 5 team districts, the #1 seed gets a reward for a great season with a bye and you have a play in game. You'd have 7 5 team districts and one 4 team district. If you want to keep the sub state format, then run the 10 subs in a serpentine format, then play the finals on friday. It would be better.
