I dont think in the history of Nebraska high school football that you could say no lincoln team was even 500 not one with a winning record. NO top 10 teams out of only 28 schools in the class and basketball doesnt look any better. SO is it just the worse year in the history of the State of Nebraska for lincoln schools and they will be back again next year, or what is it ???

Lincoln Pius X was 6-3 and in class B playoffs. Crazy that none of the class A Lincoln schools could end with a winning record. Looks like a lot of 4-5 teams.

LPS is finally investing in strength & conditioning coaches. This is key to bringing them back into the fray.

LPS hasn't been cutting edge in anything related to athletics. How many Class A schools are without turf practice fields? No sure but other then Lincoln High, no LPS schools have them. Pretty sure they have less paid coaches too. A lot of catching up to do...

I think the biggest thing is the districts are now power weighted. Teams aren't separated by geography anymore, which doesn't allow for a paper tiger to be built up like we saw at times in the old scheduling set up. Since the two new schools have been built in Lincoln, there have really only been a handful of Lincoln teams capable of winning Class A football. Obviously Southeast won it, then Southwest has had three or four quality teams, with one making the finals when Steinkuhler and Cassidy where there. The team with Banderas, Tay Bender and Brandon Reilly easily could've won state, but blew a big lead in the quarters to Papio. That was the same year Southeast won it. That's the only year I can recall two Lincoln Powers in one season since the new schools were built.

I still remember growing up in Omaha in the 90's and most Omaha schools couldn't touch the Lincoln schools in football or basketball at that time. There was a year in 1996 or 1997 where only one Omaha team made state basketball. My have the tables turned today.

This is in the right direction, but these coaches are not in the schools. There is only 2 of them working with 6 schools. That will be a vary generic program to follow. Until Lincoln invests into there middle school programs nothing will change.

Lincoln needs to follow Omaha's lead and bring back JH/Middle School football. Not everyone can afford to pay a couple hundred dollars to play Pop Warner or whatever football. The small amount of money being saved by having not lower level school sponsored football is not worth what is lost.

I'm constantly amazed at people's notion of more tackle football for 13 & under is the answer to this. Let the kids ride bikes, swim, gain athleticism & a base of strength. There's plenty of time during the next 5 years to learn plays and knock heads. These folks might be the control freak coaches or youth league presidents looking for dollars at the expense of kids & their parents.

Nebraska sports are so far behind other states its embarrassing, and lincoln is an example of that.

These days if you wait until jr. High to start playing football, it's very difficult to catch up. It's just the way it is. The same goes for most sports, soccer, basketball, wrestling. And kids don't ride bikes and play outside anymore, the play video games, text and watch tv. Starting them in sports pre-junior high gets them off the coach and active.

Amen brother I hate hearing let them be a kid, you mean let them stay in their room play online games all day and do nothing. I remember when being a kid meant sandlot baseball, touch football that turned to tackel, playing catch, climbing trees and building a club house. Dont give me that crap times have change, parents have change into raising entitlement rich kids that believe they should get what ever they want and a trophy for just showing up.

Omaha South had the #1 HS basketball team in the nation beat (without South's NU recruit) last year and Central has recently done well at major national tournaments. Omaha Westside finished 3rd at the American Legion World Series 2 summers ago and Millard South made the series this year. Omaha Skutt and Grand Island routinely finish top 3 in top national wrestling tournaments.
Why does everyone assume football in Nebraska can't compete nationally? I think the evidence above speaks to the contrary. I think the top 3-5 class A teams would do very well against all but 4-5 states in the nation. And teams like North last year can compete against anyone.

...and who's fault is it that they don't play outside? That's right, the adults. Are the kids buying their own video games?

I totally agree getting pre-teens off the couch and keeping them active is outstanding...with tackle football as the medium, not so sure. That's like saying: since I can't get my kid to eat vegetables, I'll give him twinkies. Flag football & 7-on-7 will hone football skills just fine at a young age.

Is that what lincoln does, if so I would disagree as the results show otherwise
and yes its is Parents
