If the state fully funded the schools they could say this. When schools are predominately funded by local property taxes the state needs to just stay out of it. Now they could say we are withholding funding. It wouldn't be popular and not sure of the legality of giving to some but not all... It will be forced out of necessity anyway. Some schools will be proactive and be ahead of the curve on it and some will sit with their head in the sand and get left behind. Electing good, dedicated school board members will be really important for many of these districts the next 10-20 years. They will need to be able to look at the long term and make tough decisions in the best interest of their district. Everyone knows the person that gets on just because they have an ax to grind. Those types of people will kill some of these small schools.
