Whate does everyone think of the 16 teams in playoffs It looks like 3 or 4 teams will not make it that are 6-3 and one team that is 7-2 will be in by less than 0.50 points which means in the future a real good chance that even a 7-2 will not make it
I dont know where i stand on it just yet but hard to see some good 6-3 teams not in.

My take on it is that it is a good change. Yes, there will be some good 7-2 or 6-3 teams that don't make it but it beats the 2-6 or 3-5 teams that we saw making it with the 32 team format. Playoffs are a privilege, not a right. If you can't win at least half your games(referring to previous setup) you should not continue you season. Just my two cents worth.

I think I agree, with only 48 in a class 32 is to many but I think 16 is to few Class C-1 and C-2 are now the toughest class to make playoffs in

I've always felt that this change was needed. We always played 9 regular season games. I'd rather have every team get that 9th regular season games, rather than 10-12 teams get to say they made the playoffs but have no real chance of advancing or having and impact on the championship. Football is unique from all the other sports in that you only get a chance to compete once a week. Getting 4 more games guaranteed to players over a 4 year career is a good thing. Yes a 7-2 team may get left out. And in the case of injuries costing a team a couple games or something like that... a team that could make some noise might get left out. But that is football and it would be rare circumstance for that to happen. The 8 man situation is a different animal. There are too many teams to cut it down to 16 teams, but 32 is probably still too many. Until more teams give in to the numbers and co-op or consolidate, they will have to stay at 32 and 3-5 and even 2-6 teams will get slaughtered at the expense of several others not getting a 9th game.

I like it. It was overdue but also the change in the wildcard point calculations was needed to go with it so I'm glad they did both.

All teams 7-2 or better look to make it. It's tough to sort out who's most deserving among a bunch of 6-3 teams but that's a lot better than having 2-6 teams in the playoffs.

The tough part is when the state makes the schedules you don't have control of your opponents.

Also, the new points system appears to reward a win vs a lesser opponent over a loss to a top team.

If a team loses to an Div 1 team, they get 36 points, if they beat an 0-8 team, they get 41 points, which qualifies you for the playoffs. If you get the right schedule and you are decent, you are in.

My vote would be 8 games with 24 teams in and first round bye for the top 8. Feels like we are leaving too much of this up to the state instead of between the lines.

In my opinion, the state doing the schedules is the big problem. Sutton is likely going to be 9-0, St Cecilia will be 8-1 (with a loss to Sutton) and St Cecilia is going to be a higher seed than Sutton. That's a problem. The "wish list" that schools fill out prior to a new scheduling cycle is close to meaningless.

Bottom line, the state back doored their way into this 16 team playoff. At the caucus there were 2 proposals.... the first was a 16 team playoff in C1 and C2. The second was the addition of "C3", which would also be a 16 team playoff. The general consensus among most coaches was that they wanted both to pass or neither to pass. The NSAA did what they wanted and passed the 16 team playoff and pitched it to schools by saying "you will all get 9 games". That was a flat out lie. Gordon-Rushville, Chadron, Chase County, Ogallala, Mitchell, and David City only got 8 games. I was told David City only wanted 8, but I don't know that for sure. The state claimed that "there weren't enough teams in the west" to get the others a 9th game.....meanwhile Bayard and Bridgeport are going to Wyoming for a 9th game and Valentine is getting beat 52-0 by Winner, SD when those 3 teams could be playing some of the teams listed above. If Chase County played a 9th game and it was a win against a level 3 team or higher, they would be in the playoffs this year. The state did them no favors.

Finally, class A and class B have 50% or more of their teams going to the playoffs each year. C1 and C2 have something like 96 teams total and 32 will go. Had their been the addition of a class "C3", there would have been 48 teams qualify in C1/C2/C3, which oddly enough turns out to be 50%. That would have made too much sense...

It is, indeed, the most difficult to get in the playoffs in both C classes. And, guess what, we'll be treated to the best playoff games in that class. A win for everybody. No one should be complaining. And, yes, some 6-3 team might not get a t-shirt.

I too like the new format. The only thing that I have a concern with is this. Out west here in C1 we only have an eight game schedule. Five teams in our District. One less team to compete with for District title but also one less game to get a win (or loss) to help (or hurt) points. What do you all think? Is there an advantage or disadvantage to 8 or 9 game schedule?
