Football South Dakota proposing to have five classes of football

South Dakota has 124 total football teams. 5 classes seems like too many.

Nebraska has 275 teams and people complain that 7 classes is too many. South Dakota appears to really be trumping our “problem” if too many classes.

I still would argue for 6 classes in Nebraska.
3 11-man classes
1 9-man class
1 8-man class
1 6-man class

Something for everyone, and it eliminates a class.

I agree I think six classes is easily doable. I like the element of 9-man.

I honestly think a 9 man class would solve a lot of issues with both the 11 man and 8 man eligibility. I think it’d be very beneficial to have it implemented. 11 man schools would have to adjust to losing two lineman, and 8 man schools would have to adjust to adding in an eligible receiver/back.
Defensively, 8 man gains a safety, and 11 man loses a LB and DB.
If you go with an 11 man field you’re looking at a high scoring fast paced game. If you go with an 8 man field we might end up with a more defensive, lower scoring game. I’d be a fan of either one.
I have a feeling that if this ever passes, the 8 man class might be very crowded. Unless they’d raise the cutoff for 6 man.
