Can someone remind me how the new sub districts/sub state rules works? Are there no wildcards anymore…. Do you have to win your sub district to advance?

There is one wild card in Class A. No subdistricts there, district assignments are serpentine based on wild card standings.

The rest of the classes have pre-determined subdistrict assignments. The winners of those subdistricts plus the next X number of teams in the wild card standings after subdistricts (to get to 16 teams) advance to a state-wide district final round where teams are paired in serpentine fashion: 1v16, 2v15, etc.

Those eight district final winners advance to state, where they are re-seeded based on updated wild card standings.

EDIT: I said "X" number of teams because it's 8 in Class B and 4 in C1 through D2.

On top of what has already been posted, in Class B, D1 and D2 the higher seeded team in the district final will host.

In C1 and C2, the higher seeded team will host the district final unless the two teams are more than 180 miles apart, then in that case a the district final will be played at a neutral site.

Mini state tourney going on.
This is why I hate that subs are decided on so early. Decide the teams by Feb 1. Why isn't Elkhorn Valley in C2-7? They played all the teams except North Central, Tilden is closer to Summerland by a few miles compared to Madison. Would help even out the subs a little. There are few other examples to that geography wouldn't effect that much. Should look like this...

C2-1, C2-2, C2-6, C2-8, C2-9, C2-10, C2-11, C2-12 stay the same.

(I know C2-10 is a gauntlet with GICC, DT and Amherst, but geography locks them in. Unless you sent swapped Alma with Doniphan-Trumbull.)

I'm fine with it. The current format mitigates travel in the subdistrict round while still providing a second chance for the elite teams in a class should they be in a stacked sub.

D1 and D2 are still neutral site hosts for District Finals. Regardless of distance.

But Class C only uses neutral sites, SOME of the time? That's ridiculous. 175 miles, i can host, but 8 miles further i have to travel 90 miles? Either have the higher seed host or everybody travels. Not a teams fault that the state pairs them with a team 200 miles away. I don't care which, but trying to both is just silly.

I tend to agree. Do it one way or the other.

I do miss the days of all of the districts being neutral site (especially because I went to a smaller school and it was cool to play in a big Class A gym), but I bet they get much better attendance when one of the participating teams hosts. $$$
