Possible conference shakeup?

That article says that Standing Bear has colors and a nickname like LNW. Do they?

So when they go to class A are they going to stay in the EMC? I really don't understand the decision.
I seem to remember when these high schools were proposed that the attendance would be capped at Class B levels and that they would not get to the size of the other A schools in Lincoln.

They are built to be Class B size but planned to expand. I don't know that expansion money is in place though, so they could be capped smaller than the others for quite a while. Which makes finding a Class B conference home make more sense.

I could see them being Class B for a good six years. Standing Bear though one would think will grow quickly when you look at the number of homes being built around it. It's all new construction areas too. One would think they should be able to compete right away in Class B football/basketball with the talent pool they have access to compared to other Class B schools/communities.

I wonder if this new school will hurt Palmyra or help them? 70th and Saltillo isn't far from Hickman either.

>> Is woodland hills in Palmyra school district ?

Norris says the golf course is in their district.

Does anyone have any idea on what Ashland-Greenwood timetable is? They seem to be the next logical team to join the Trailblazer. OR....I don't think this would happen, but could they get an EMC invite with their continued growth?

Interesting that there has been no announcement (that I've seen) about Buena Vista and Westview to the Metro. Both are starting with just 9-10 graders, right? JV-only year one? What about year two, the second of the two-year football cycle? I think those are major dominoes.

I think there is another EMC move coming too.

I'd love to see Skutt move in to this league with Gross (or a combo of Mt. Michael/Duchesne to keep the numbers at 10. That would leave the RCC to essentially disband. Send Omaha Roncalli to the Centennial Conference so Concordia has a partner.

In. But, now I'm hearing no second school coming in for 2022. Still possible for fall 2023 when Standing Bear enters, but makes me wonder if whole deal is shaky. I'll say this EMC certainly being aggressive and making moves to survive in their suburban boom environment.

OK- Academic exercise:
What if a bomb dropped and it was declared that all conferences had to compete in football again. In fact, your whole schedule is playing your conference.
1. How many of these conferences immediately break up because the football match-ups would not work?
2. How many split in two (maybe because of 6/8/11 issues) or maybe just because in football competition a split would be best.
3. How many of the really big ones would just need geographic splits because the level of football would be fine?

These conferences were developed for basketball, volleyball, track, and other sports. It has been a long time since football was considered in conference discussions. But, the old reasons for forming conferences like similar demos, location, history are still factors. Would these conferences still work for football if they had to?

That is crazy. It's 27 miles from Norris campus to the golf course.

6 miles from Palmyra.
For clarification. Woodland Hills is the home course for Palmyra. Pioneers in Lincoln is the home course for Norris. Woodland Hills is in the Waverly school district.

This is the craziness of district maps and school districts, example if you live in woodland hills, I believe there is five schools districts closer to you than your home district

1. I think many of the conferences would still be able to play against each other.
2.
3. I think this would be the most likely scenario. Conferences would split into a east vs west or north vs south.

Conferences that could do it:

Capitol: Yes, Could easily make it work, often times these teams get matched up in district play
Centennial: Yes, split into an east vs west
Central: Yes, split into a east vs west
Eastern Midlands: Yes, see the Capitol description
Frontier: Sure?
GNAC: Yes, they get matched up in district play a lot.
HAC: Yes, they play each other all the time
Lewis and Clark: Yes if Ponca goes 8 man eventually. Split into an east/west. (They should do this now)
LouPlatte: Yes if ALC gets out and Amherst comes in.
Metro: Yes, they play each other all the time
Minuteman: Yes if they all play 6 man
Panhandle: Yes, they all play each other now for the most part.
Pioneer: Yes, they play each other now for the most part.
Southwest: Yes they play each other in district play a lot.
Trailblazer: Yes

These I would lean towards no

Crossroads: I would lean towards no. It would be challenging with teams like Dorchester, Hampton, High Plains, etc.
ECNC: No, Auburn to Weeping Water doesn't really work.
East Husker: No, same here as the ECNC. West Point-Beemer vs Humphrey-Lindsay Holy Family doesn't work.
Goldenrod: No until St. Edward and Elba co-op with someone or consolidate.
MNAC: Maybe split into a 6 man conference schedule and 8 man conference schedule
Mid-State: No because of GACC.
Niobrara Valley: No
RPAC: No
SPVA: No
Southern: If Heartland gets out, maybe.
Twin Valley: No
Western Trails: No

Could we see Amherst get invited to the LouPlatte soon with their steady growth? Have they been an FKC member for a long time?

Their enrollment definitely no longer fits the FKC. Basketball classification enrollment of 58 (top c2, almost C1), the rest of the conference ranges from 24‐36 (D1/D2).

I don’t mind some of your ideas for conferences, but I do think you should investigate some of them before you throw out ideas. You want the L&C to be split East and west………….

Lewis and Clark is essentially split ‘East-west’ now that they went back to two divisions. It’s also a big-little split.

West/Little:
Plainview
Osmond
Creighton
Bloomfield
Wynot
Winside
Wausa
Randolph

East/Big:
Winnebago
Walthill
Homer
Tri County Northeast
Ponca
Wakefield
LCC
Hartington-Newcastle (they are slightly west of Wynot & Winside, but makes sense for them to slide East from a size standpoint)

OK- this is why I asked because I have a crazy idea. What about a classification system that allowed (in a way) teams to choose their class, and their class (in a way) to choose them?

1. The system comes into effect in the fall of 2025 to give schools time to get to the right place for their school's needs. Of course, other conferences would have to 'choose them' by allowing them into another conference.
2. By fall 2023, conferences are assigned a class by looking at where the majority of their schools are at that time. Though I would argue this is the time to reduce classes to three 11-man, two 8-man, and 6-man. And, down to five classes for volleyball and basketball. All the while being realistic that by 2035 Nebraska probably needs to be at five football classes and back to four classes for everything else.
3. Some conferences might declare separate divisions for football or other specific sports and those divisions would be acknowledged for each sport as long as there are five schools in each division.
4. Schools have chosen a conference where they think they can compete reasonably, where they have geographic and demographic connections, and where they have traditional rivalries.
5. Football schedules would be formed beginning with conference round-robins. Conference championships would be one way into the playoffs with the point system supplying the other teams (like the 1980s).
6. Independents would be assigned by enrollment.
7. Co-ops would have to get conference membership or be assigned by enrollment.

Feel free to tell me all the ways this is crazy.

As someone that grew up in the RCC, I still don't understand why Ralston left the league. I get it, Skutt is good and had an upper hand on the league, but they are still a better fit to me in the RCC.
Isn’t the RCC mostly parochial schools now? Maybe when Beatrice jumped out, that made Ralston not want to be the only non parochial school. I know when the conference was formed they wanted schools with similar demographics. Schools like Ralston, Beatrice, NC, Plattsmouth, etc really aren’t growing. Not sure schools like Wahoo, Platteview and AG fit that though because I can see those schools growing.

Correct on the RCC, it's currently four parochial schools (Gross, Mount Michael, Roncalli, Skutt) plus South Sioux City.

I always thought that it was weird that Beatrice and SSC were in the same conference. Here you had a cluster of teams from Omaha and then a school in far northeast Nebraska and one in southeast Nebraska.

Its like Ainsworth and Valentine being in the Southwest Conference. Makes no sense at all

With our states' population distribution their always some wierd outliers; Valentine, Ainsworth, North Platte, South Sioux City, etc.

IMO South Sioux City should be grouped in with Norfolk, Fremont, Columbus and maybe even Blair somehow. Maybe add something into the mix like Hastings and GINW. Problem is while that would make sense for SSC why would those other schools want to?

I think SSC would love to be in a different league, they just don't have any other options at the moment.

Would it make sense for SSC to be in a conference with the other Sioux City schools? I know Council Bluffs St. Albert used to play in the Centennial with all of the mid-sized eastern Nebraska parochial schools until about 5 to 10 years ago.

Agreed there will always be outliers, it's impossible for their not to be with the population distribution.

But I would not be shocked if Ainsworth left the Southwest and joined the NVC someday.

With the opening of the LNK schools, I was hoping the LPS schools would form their own conference, but with the new schools being locked in at Class B for a few years, that doesn't seem likely. They don't need to have Fremont, Norfolk, Columbus in their league.

Star City Conference:
Lincoln North Star
Lincoln Northeast
Lincoln High
Lincoln East
Lincoln Southeast
Lincoln Pius
Lincoln Southwest
Lincoln Standing Bear*
Lincoln Northwest*

New Heartland:
South Sioux City
Norfolk
Fremont
Columbus
GISH
Kearney
North Platte (if they stay in Class A)
Hastings (if they stay in Class A)

At this point the RCC should take in Omaha Concordia. Concordia played nearly all the RCC schools except Skutt this year.

Skutt
Gross
Roncalli
Concordia
Mt. Michael
Omaha Deschene
Omaha Mercy
