After looking over that bracket it looks like Arcadia/loup city trekked to Hayes Center 3 nights in a row?! Yikes, gotta be around 3hours one way.
The new format gets the best 8 to state. People are making way too big of a deal that Sutton had to go to MayHay and Maxwell had to go Hebron.
I agree is not that much of a problem. The problem was just that Sandy Creek ad Sutton are 14 miles apart and could have played that first round at Sandy creek or Sutton BUT in the end who cares I like the system
It's one thing for the team to have to do it, but what about the fans?
How do you suppose the parents felt about that?
Having to travel 6 hours a day, for 3 days in a row, during the work week?
Pretty damn stupid to even have to consider doing that in order to watch one of your children play, especially if your child is a senior and each game could be their last.
"Just stay the night"... Well, look at the cost of fuel and cost of hotel and loss of 3 days of work. No matter which option you choose, you had better have money saved up and not be poor.
Why is it so important to get the 8 best teams to state (instead of the best 6 or 7 + 1 or 2 others) when it comes at a cost to the school, fans, and parents like this?
We are not a small state. This isn't just Omaha or Lincoln. Can't win your subdistrict due to stiff competition? Win at district finals.
Can't win district finals? Sorry. 12 subdistricts and the remaining top-4 in points go to district finals, right? How does changing the subdistrict to this new system change that?
In the old system, couldn't the 3rd or 4th place team (in a subdistrict with all great teams), still make district finals and have a chance to go to state?
I think it's fair to say that the format will stay going forward. I think the only true discussion is how long until class D follows suit.
That would be a mistake.
