Football Benson cancels remainder of season

choices have consequences
Choices absolutely have consequences.

What we are really discussing here is if the consequences are in the best interest of the student or if they are a detriment because they are so "stringent" or excessive.

I don't know the answers, but as we discuss this further an answer is beginning to appear.

Football Benson cancels remainder of season

So this is what I am picturing in my mind.

A kid is struggling in their school. Perhaps struggling to find a friend group, maybe struggling in the class room, not engaging or even wanting to engage in ANY extra curricular activities whatsoever.

This family decides that it may be best to find a different school. The child goes to a new school on January 1st. They flourish in the new environment. They find a friend group, are happy, academics improve, and now the new friend group is encouraging this student to play football, come out for Cross Country, Girls Golf, etc.

With a 180 Day Rule, the system is now HURTING this student's ability to reach their potential. Everything about the transfer has worked just as the family had prayed it would. The system is not supporting this student. Now I understand that this student can play JV Sports...if the school has JV Sports based upon participation numbers.

I like the 90 days.
I like the 90 also

Another scenario very similar to above…a kid from a small school struggling as stated above transfers to a neighboring small school.

The first school doesn’t have a strong arts program, but the new school does. The student discovers a pain for the arts at the new school but can’t be in the One Act or Speech…because there is no JV. They also can’t participate in District Music. All because they had to sit out, so now they’re back to doing nothing.

D2 Playoff Projections

This is what I have at the moment. The only ones with points locked in are Ainsworth, Winside, Weeping Water, and Elmwood Murdock. Everyone else has yet to play or has an opponent that can change what division they are in. Flip Flop who you think will win between Loomis and Overton, they will have the same points that is listed for whoever wins/loses.

Anselmo-Merna vs Palmer game is huge for EAST / WEST split. Palmer wins CV goes West, A-M wins CV goes East, (Likely). This would change a bunch of seedings too.

GISH cancels their girls basketball season

It’s an interesting approach. Sounds like they’ve talked to the parents and have a plan. I read that the coach has built up the youth program. Hope this plan works out, and hope the coop in omaha works too. We need these schools playing sports.
If this is what it takes, it is what it is. I still just can't fathom that a school of 2,070 students can't find 7 or 8 upper classmen who are interested in basketball.

A mid term transfer won’t be eligible until the following year if there is a 180 day rule. 180 days refers to schools days not days on the calendar.

GISH cancels their girls basketball season

2070 in the last classification. Mind blowing to say the least.
Yep.....just posted the numbers the other, second-largest in the state only behind the co-op of Omaha Buena Vista/Omaha Bryan at 2,214. (Another conversation for a different day, but blows my mind that two Class A schools have to co-op to field a basketball team.)

GISH cancels their girls basketball season

2070 in the last classification, mind blowing to say the least. Grand Island is odd to me, although they aren't crazy succesful, I've always felt like there has been at least a sense of pride. The fact that they can't get 10 girls from that enrollment screams that there are bigger problems there than kids just not wanting to play basketball.

D2 Playoff Projections

So now that Cambridge lost to Hitchcock, where do they fall in the West? Sandhills Thedford is the #1 seed now too right unless CV comes west.
Cambridge will finish with 39.125 and looks to be #9 in the west UNLESS MHC loses to Bertrand then they will finish with 38.75 and be #10 it looks like.

S/T will not have enough points to jump the Winner of Loomis/Overton like said above. They will be the #2/#3 depending on what side Central Valley goes and if A-M beats Palmer.
