The NSAA has published its initial list of schools' intentions for the next two-year cycle in football.

Deadline to apply for a cooperative sponsorship in football for this cycle is November 1. Co-ops will be approved at the November NSAA Board meeting.

Deadline to declare for 11-man, 8-man or 6-man football is November 30. This is also the deadline for schools to submit their intent to Opt-Up or Opt-Down in classification.

- Schools with a BOYS three-grade enrollment (9th-11th grades) in excess of 47 as submitted in September of 2023 are not eligible for the 8-man football playoffs in 2024 and 2025, unless they're within the one-classification waiver period. A school that is ineligible for the playoffs in 2024/2025 cycle can become eligible in the second season (2025) if their BOY enrollment figure is 47 or lower as submitted in September of 2024.

- Schools with a BOYS three-grade enrollment (9th-11th grades) in excess of 27 as submitted in September of 2023 are not eligible for the 6-man football playoffs in 2024 and 2025, unless they're within the one-classification waiver period. A school that is ineligible for the playoffs in 2024/2025 cycle can become eligible in the second season (2025) if their BOY enrollment figure is 27 or lower as submitted in September of 2024.

- A school that "Opts-Down" in classification and is thus ineligible for the playoffs in the 2024/2025 cycle can become eligible in the second season (2025) if their boy enrollment figure as submitted in September 2024 falls within the appropriate classification enrollment range.

- Classifications and district assignments for the 2024 and 2025 football seasons will be released in December 2023. Complete football schedules for all classes for the 2024 and 2025 seasons will be established in January/February of 2024. The schedules, along with home and away designations will be released to member schools on February 7, 2024.

There were 6 D1 teams that were using the 2 year grace period last election cycle including last years football champs clarkson-Leigh. Looks like superior went from ineligible to eligible in the kid cycle? Then twin river is right on the line.

Have not heard of any new football co/ops for this period, they would have 5.5 weeks to declare a co-op however

Does anyone know if the cut off for 8man is changing this year? Then also the cut off for d2 and d6

The proposals are voted on at the district level in November and those that pass in two districts are voted again state wide in January. Then they're voted one more time for passage in April.

Declarations have to be made by November, Districts released in December and schedules released in February.

These cut off proposals would not go into effect until the next scheduling cycle.

They probably won't do it but......Medicine Valley needs to try the whole 6-man thing.
I have heard this is happening. Crazy to think they went from a semifinal team 6 years ago to back to back winless seasons. Low roster numbers the last two. I'm going to guess low participation is killing them. I also have heard losing the one kid to M-HC last year cost them three others that decided to not go out. Such a weird situation down there with those two towns.

Anyone heard of many 11man teams dropping to 8? I haven't heard much on that front. I've heard of two schools dropping to 6 (Leyton and Med Valley). Had also heard some talk of Brady moving back to 8. Just wondering if the D1/D2 line will change much.

they are having a meeting Nov 2 about 6 man

I don't think that is how it works with a newly formed co-op but I could be wrong. Even if it is that way, they play 8-man for two years and then be 11-man after that?
They would play 8-man if they wanted for two years and then choice to play 11-man or not be eligible for playoffs and or they may know thier enrollment is dropping below

My understanding is if their number is 47 or below for that first year they are eligible for 8 man playoffs that year and the following year even if that following year they're at 48+. After that second year they follow the normal cutoff rules, eligibility, exemptions, etc.
It doesn't matter if both schools currently play 8 man. That doesn't automatically make them eligible in a new co-op. They'd have to go into that first year under the cutoff number to be eligible

Looking at Clarkson/Leigh's basketball number and their declaration for 8 man football, does this likely mean they're going to be ineligible for the playoffs next cycle? They used their 2 year exemption this year. Can't imagine a community like that would be okay being automatically disqualified from the playoffs.

basketball numbers imclude this year seniors, football numbers will not So they could just have a large senior class

If they continue on their growth trend, they will be over the 8 man number soon.

It will never happen, but if Howells-Dodge and Clarkson/Leigh came together for football only, using numbers from the classification numbers from last cycle, they would be the largest C2 team at 82.

Correct.... Never going to happen, but, WOW if it did!

Wild wild thought here, Giltner is looking at doing a new bond issue and Doniphan Trumbull is as well. I know a long time ago (late 80's possibly) there was talk of combining those 3. Just wondering what people's thoughts are on that.

It would make financial sense, enrollment sense (would be a C1 school) and help with the teaching shortage. But that makes too much sense.

New co-ops do NOT get a two-year exemption. If two 8-man schools go together, and they are above the 47 boy number, they have to play 11-man or be ineligible in 8-man.

That's a huge reason why moving the 8-man number would be beneficial. It would allow for more co-ops where schools can continue playing the 8-man game.

Aside from the other huge reason that it’s no longer 1983 and you don’t have a 75-90% participation rate.

I agree wholeheartedly. I addressed the issue being discussed, which is co-ops and eligibility.
