After a little digging, Belden did have a high school that closed in 1966. Their colors were Purple and Gold and they were called the Indian Braves. Maybe they all just picked up and moved to Battle Creek. Not sure.

Also found a real obscure one. Magnet had a high school from the end of WWI until 1956. They were considered a Class G school (whatever that means) and participated in athletics at the state level.

Wayne Hahn was also called Wayne Prep. It was Wayne State's teachers' training school.

Chadron, Kearney, and Peru had similar prep schools, too. Wesleyan had one. Concordia too. And UNL had University High

I was unaware that Keystone had a high school and had no idea they had jr. high football in the 70's. Thanks for that bit of information.

By brother actually played for them...…. as a 4th or 5th grader. I think that was the last year they played. 71 or 72 I believe.

Trenton was the Warriors when they were by themselves. I always thought that Wauneta was the Broncos even before Palisade joined them. Pretty sure Republican Valley was the Mustangs.

Nope. Worked with Lincoln Public Schools. In fact, they closed University HIgh when East opened and many kids transferred out there. Many were kids of faculty who lived out East by 1967 anyway.

1500 VIne. If you are driving toward stadium on vine and get by that new business college building, University High is across VIne. It is an Education classroom building now, but if you look at it, you can see it was a high school.

So many small towns I didnt realize had high schools that competed at one time. Road trips were certainly a lot shorter years ago. Also, so many little towns I've never heard of in some of the further away points of the state.

I was driving by on Hwy 20 and snapped a photo of the old Belden school today. I cant figure out how to post it on the mobile site. This weekend I'll save it to my laptop and share it. Pretty cool thread here.

Meadow Grove was the Trojans. Consolidated with the Tilden Tigers in 1967 to form the Elkhorn Valley Falcons.

There were a lot of consolidations around that time.

Inman still had a JH in the early 90s, played against them. Not sure when the HS closed, but they were the Tigers

Thanks for the help northeastNebraska. This is the photo of the Belden school I was able to snap today. Pretty cool that bruiser84 shared that Belden was the the Braves and had purple and gold colors. Low and behold in the center of their main street they have a purple and gold B painted. Most passers by probably have no clue that the colors have meaning, I know I didn't until now.
