With the move of Norfolk and Kearney to the HAC. That pretty much puts a dagger in the GNAC. The current teams are...

Scottsbluff
North Platte
McCook
Lexington
Hastings
Columbus

No way that league can survive in my opinion. I could see Columbus trying to get in the Central 10. The Central 10 currently has...

Crete
Seward
Aurora
York
GI Northwest
Schuyler
Adams Central
Columbus Lakeview
Holdrege

What would you like to see change?

Good points, Northeast. A few thoughts:
  • My understanding is McCook is already a dual member of the GNAC and Southwest Conference. They've set themselves up for if/when the GNAC dissolves.
  • If Holdrege and Lex got on board, then I think the Southwest would be at 10?
  • I think Southern Valley stays put in the RPAC. Their location gives them options, but I think the RPAC is a better fit. Similar schools, rural communities, and all that.
  • IF Ogallala left, I agree that the SPVA would be ideal. Seems like they play most of those schools anyway.

Intereesting! I'm not sure why everyone is writing off the GNAC. 6 is plenty. In fact, now with wrestling it's a ready made dual tournament. Regardless, I could see them possibly adding Gering, Holdredge, GINW, Hastings, among others. Travel is really a non-factor. It's not like you'd be required to play every other team. Maybe fold the two leagues together. Call it the GN16. Slide Columbus into an "east", and AC, Holdredge, and NW into a "west". Really more of a hoops post, but play 1st rd games at home sites, maybe 2nd. Find a place for 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, 7-8 games in each division. Then a rotating site for 8 final games on a Friday night, all day Saturday. Move from Cougar Palace, to NPCC, to UNK/HC, then Concordia U. 4 guaranteed games, big time atmosphere. I'd think that would be very attractive to most bb coaches. This is fun, btw. Nice thread idea!

Good Work. I don't see So Valley leaving the RPAC. Geographically, demographically, they are are a really good fit in the RPAC. Nor do I see Sutherland leaving the SPVA. Same size (exactly) as St. Pats, close to Kimball and Perkins County. Bayard, in addition, to Ogallala, are the next likely members, imo, of the SPVA. But, who knows!

True, I like the SPVA. It's a fun conference and the tournament at NPCC is always a blast. Sutherland has one of the nicest schools I've seen for it being as small as it is.

1) Sutherland is a charter member of the SPVA and they have no interest in leaving. 2) Although Ogallala makes sense geographically in the SPVA, it is not a good fit culturally. It is a much larger school that offers more sports programs than most of the SPVA schools. The town itself is much larger than the public school communities in the SPVA and it identifies itself more with communities like Sidney or McCook than it does Sutherland or Bridgeport. 3) I think that Southern Valley isn't a cultural fit in the SWC either. The SWC is made up of one town schools in communities of around 3,000-4,000 while Southern Valley is a consolidated school of 4 or 5 very small towns. Although it may be a larger school than most RPAC schools, but it is a better fit culturally I believe. Still, that's a pretty comprehensive list you've put together

I shouldn't have said Sutherland. I do like them in spva. I just hope they can keep their enrollment up.

Southern Valley is just in a weird spot. I get it the towns fit in, but the school really doesn't. They play half the SWC to begin with in basketball. They do pretty well too.

Agreed. But it isn't like they trample on the RPAC either.

I guess Sutherland's enrollment has increased in the last few years. I don't think your Sutherland prediction was a bad one, I've just heard they are happy where they are at.

Some changes that are upcoming:

- Elkhorn South is leaving the Eastern Midlands Conference for the Metro Conference

- Norfolk and Kearney are leaving the GNAC and teaming with independent Lincoln Pius X to join the Heartland Athletic Conference (a soon future seventh Lincoln public high school will fill this league out with 12 members).

I don't understand why high school conferences are so large. To me 8-10 is ideal. What's the point of these 16 school conferences? In most cases you won't even play a couple of the other schools, in some cases years at a time until matched up with in a conference tournament.

East Butler is not in the ECNC any longer.

I think they're in the Crossroads, but not 100% on that.

Updated the East Butler info and Maxwell as well.

Nebraska Lutheran is also a member of the CRC.

Thanks!
