Do you have colors and when they closed?

Who was Twin Valley and Republican Valley?

Here's my family tree of Southwest High:

My hometown, Keystone, had a high school up until the 1940's but I was never aware of them competing in sports or having a mascot. It remained a K-8 school until the mid 2000's. In the early 70's they had a junior high football team nicknamed the Mustangs
A little more information on Keystone High. My mom graduated 8th grade from there in the spring of 1948. Her class was the first to be sent to high school in Ogallala in the fall of 48. I still do not have a mascot

Wow. Just. . . . wow. Looks like one of those chemistry compound diagrams from a class I failed back in high school. TC, you da man. If you had been my lab partner, I might have made something of myself. Instead of spending too much time on high school message boards.

From 1917-1966 Chappell was actually Deuel County High School. From 1911-1917 it was Chappell High school and then in 1966 they went back to Chappell High School. My dad and my uncles all graduated from Deuel County High School. They were always the Buffaloes. I don't remember why they changed the name of the high school though.

Big Springs: Trojans, Royal blue and gold
Lewellen: Tigers, orange and black
Oshkosh: As far as I know they have always been called Garden County High School. Purple and white, Eagles.
Lisco: Indians, red and white.
Henry: Broncos, scarlet and cream
Melbeta: Eagles, black, white and red
Lake Alice: Hornets, blue and gold
Lyman: Wildcats, purple and gold originally and then blue and white

Grant is that way too. It was Grant then Perkins County, then Grant again, and now back to Perkins County.
The reason Perkins County was called that the first time around from what I was told was that in the pre option days they offered free high tuition to anyone in Perkins County regardless of what school district they were in. Once the option law came into effect, free high tuition was longer needed and they went back to Grant until they merged with Wheatland in the mid 2000's. Since Venango had already merged with Grant they were then the only school district in the county. I assume Garden County may have been called that for the same reason pre-merger with Lewellen

The Keystone Mustangs were junior high only with colors Red, Black, and White. Have been unable to find out high school mascot.

This might be another interesting tidbit. When my kids were in Junior High about 10 years ago, I always found it interesting that the Imperial kids were called Imperial and not Chase County and they wore Green instead of Orange and Black. What I didn't know was that Chase County was a high school only merger until just a few years ago. At that time the country schools were k-8 so the junior high was Imperial only and they used Imperial colors which were Green

Very interesting. That makes sense. Working on the massive 1926 basketball tournament today and seeing that Mullen is called Hooker County by the newspapers. Probably the same thing.

Hooker Co lost to Bellevue in the first round of the Class R bracket that year, and the NSAA credits that game to Mullen. thanks!

Does anyone from Norfolk have any info on the old schools that now make up the Norfolk Catholic school? Sacred Heart, Nazarene, and Burns I think were their names. Along with an all girl school in there also. I know I have seen these names mentioned in their Hall of Fame inductions.
All of those schools were simply name changes. They were all names of the Catholic school in Norfolk. The girls school was named Assumption Academy, I believe.

What’s the story with Clay Center? Do all the kids in Clay County (besides Sutton and Harvard) go to Sandy Creek?

You never really hear about them anymore. When did Clay Center close? What was their mascot?

Clay center school is closed and they go to Sandy Creek or if they are good at sports Sutton
Sandy Creek is made up of a few small towns in that area
I think Fairfield, Deweese and Clay Center
The largest City in Clay County is Sutton

Clay Center was orange and black Wildcats. They merged with Sandy Creek a few years ago. Elementary stayed open until this year, I think, when Sandy's new building opened.

Purdum closed in 1949. That's all I have.
Brownlee and Elsmere not on my list.

I have no nickname, just colors: red and white. I even found a couple OWH articles about the transition to Platteview. Made me think, maybe they were Trojans, but nothing definite.

Springfield - Trojans, Red and White

HELP!

Working on the 1931 basketball districts and I have a Liberty high school in a western Nebraska district. Obviously, that's not the town Liberty in Gage County. I have a fuzzy memory of a consolidated school out west called Liberty, but can't find anything to locate it. Any ideas?

Think I found a township Liberty in Box Butte County. Assume that's Liberty.

Looking for location of another country high school: Platte Valley near North Platte. Ideas?

I did find a few more towns that had schools.

Rockville Tigers, Orange and Black, closed in 1965
Ashton Hawks, Orange and Blue, closed in 1968
Wiggle Creek Warriors Black and Orange (not sure on closure)

Now I'm looking for Dry Valley High. Maps show a couple of Dry Valley communities north of Mullen, but Dry Valley High played in the 1931 Kearney district so this must be another community. Any ideas?

There is an old school house south of Sargent and North of Ansley on Highway 183 called the Dry Valley School but I don't know if it was ever a high school.
