The NSAA Board of Directors met February 14, 2018 at the Association Office in Lincoln, Nebraska with the following members present:

District I - Mark Norvell, Fillmore Central
District I - Kathy Wieskamp, Lincoln Public Schools
District II - Dr. Bob Reznicek, Boys Town
District II - Nolan Beyer, Millard Public Schools
District III - Jay Bellar, Battle Creek
District IV - Dan Keyser, Sutherland
District V - Alan Garey, Medicine Valley
District VI - Dr. Troy Unzicker, Alliance
Also in attendance were Dr. Kim Snyder, Nebraska Department of Education liaison; Derek Aldridge, NSAA Legal Counsel; Marc Mrocek, Athletic Director, North Platte High School; Scott and Linda Dishman, parents; Pan and Pon Dishman, students; Jason Williams, Athletic Director, Omaha Burke High School; Dorie Thomas, parent; Kevin Kobs, boys basketball coach, Omaha Burke High School; Patrick Pope, Omaha Public Schools; Gaye Lannan, Principal, Omaha Burke High School.

The meeting was called to order at 9:15 a.m.

1. Moved to approve the Consent Agenda as presented. Items on the Consent Agenda included approval of the following: the meeting agenda as amended; the Minutes of the January 18, 2018 regular meeting; minutes of the February 6, 2018 Class Caucus Review Committee; the Financial Report; and cooperative sponsorship renewals for Bellevue East and Platteview High Schools for boys and girls swimming and for Centura and Central Valley High Schools for softball. Motion Carried: 8-0

2. The Board discussed the Summer Board Retreat.

3. The Board discussed Approved Rulings that came through the legislative process.

4. It was moved to approve the spring activities manuals in baseball, soccer, girl's tennis and track and field. Motion Carried: 8-0

5. Moved to approve the updated Unified Track and Field guidelines. Motion Carried: 8-0

6. The Board discussed wheelchair track events.

7. North Platte High School appeared before the Board to appeal a denied age hardship waiver application for two students. Following a presentation of the evidence, those representing the school provided clarifying information and answers to Board members' questions.

8. Omaha Burke High School appeared before the Board to appeal boys basketball sanctions. Following a presentation of the evidence, those representing the school provided clarifying information and answers to Board members' questions.

9. The Board discussed the 2018 NFHS Summer Meeting.

10. Dr. Tenopir reported on reprimands; lack of medical personnel at regular season events; the Class Caucus Review Committee; the NSIAAA Awards Luncheon; lunch with the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Athletic Director; a meeting on racial issues with Commissioner Matt Blomstedt; the National Sports Medicine Summit in conjunction with the NFHS Legal Meeting; the Bowling proposal; the wrestling RFP; and the need for a Classification Committee meeting.

11. It was moved to enter into Executive Session at 12:00 p.m. to further discuss the hearings and staff compensation. Motion Carried: 8-0

12. It was moved to exit Executive Session at 12:53 p.m. Motion Carried: 8-0

13. In open session, it was moved to uphold the Executive Director's decision to deny eligibility on North Platte's appeal for an age hardship waiver. Motion Carried: 8-0

14. In open session, it was moved to uphold the Executive Director's decision on Omaha Burke's appeal for boys basketball sanctions amending the forfeits from three games to five games. Motion Carried: 7-0 (Beyer abstain)

There being no further business, the meeting adjourned at 12:56 p.m.

The next meeting of the NSAA Board of Directors will be held in Lincoln at the NSAA Office on March 7, 2018.
