Question out there for the rule nerds. At the game I attended tonight, the offensive team was given two penalties on one play, a false start and a holding. The opposing team took the holding and backed up the offense 10 yards. When a false start occurs, shouldn't the play have been ruled dead, essentially negating the play and subsequent hold?

Comments: The top six teams in this class could all make the finals. Because of this Shelton does not drop after losing to Red Cloud and Southwest enters after a close loss to Arthur County. I still believe, when healthy, Parkview Christian could be the team to beat. The state did Potter-Dix no favors with their poor schedule. Hopefully for them, they are experienced enough when they finally play a quality team in the semi-finals and finals.

I think I've heard before that NSAA sets football schedules for schools, is that right? Do they set their whole schedule or just a portion? Do they schedule other sports for the schools as well?

As someone who lived in Nebraska a long time and was a casual high school sports observer, I very rarely see teams play schools from other states. As I missing it? Are there rules against it?

Where we are in California now, it is very common to travel for high school sports. My daughter's high school cross country team was just in Boise, ID this weekend and the volleyball team was in Oregon. The football team often plays Oregon and Nevada teams. The basketball teams are going to Hawaii this year and have been to Alaska and Hawaii in the past. Baseball often goes to Arizona. This is all fairly common for teams around here. Why don't Nebraska schools take advantage of the opportunity sports provide to experience different things, which can often be very educational?

Mitchell is currently at the top of Class C2 in Powerpoints at 44.800 as of 9-26-22. When is the last time a team that far west (or even west of North Platte) had the #1 seed in C2 or C1 going into the playoffs?

Their remaining games are against 0-5 Alliance (C1), Chase County (3-2), @ Valentine (3-2), and Gordon-Rushville (2-3).

-Alliance won't affect their points because they already as low as a team can be with 43 points.
-Chase County probably will stay Division 3, maybe if they sneak one they can get to 5-4. They play Hershey this week, but end with @ Mitchell, @ Wood River and Valentine.
-Valentine will probably finish Division 2 if they get two more wins, (they play Gordon this week and 1-4 Hershey after that)
-GR should finish Division 3 as well if they get one more win.

Right behind them is Hastings St. Cecilia, who hasn't played a great schedule either. They do still play 4-1 Fillmore and 4-1 Wood River. But will either of those teams be Division 1 teams by the end of the year?


Norfolk Catholic is third. They will have at least two division 1 teams in Ord and a combo of Cedar or BC. NC still has Battle Creek and Cedar Catholic. Those three teams will beat up each other in a way, but if NC keeps winning, they may get the #1 spot.

The 10 subdistrict winners plus the next six highest finishers in the point standings among the non-champions will qualify for the district finals were teams will be paired based on seeding (by points): #1 vs #16, #2 vs. #15, etc. The district finals will be a best-of-three format.

The UNK Invitational is a huge meet that serves as a quasi state meet preview. Carson Noecker of Hartington ran a new course record with a time of 14:51.0, breaking Seth Hirsch's old course record time of 15:04.9 he ran while at Millard West in 2016.

Meet officials wanted Noecker to run in the Class A race, but he opted to stay in the Class C field and run with the rest of his team. Trey Robertson of Wallace (Class D) did opt up to the Class A race and finished 18th.
